Ooraah!!
Where is this from? Is this an original idea? Because I recognize the armor in the cover art, but not where its from...
And don't think I missed that This is Sparta meme at the end, took me a second to see it, but its there.

It's an original idea. The armor in the picture is from the game section 8 but the vehicles, armor, and everything in this story is built from the ground up by me over the course of about 5 years. The only thing Section 8 game related is the picture.
Interesting story but the formatting needs work. Each time a new person speaks it should be a separate paragraph.

That has already been adressed. Thanks though.
You can try not making it so one-sided on neutrality with a soldier of this rank should have. But what I really don't understand is how would you know a veteran soldier versus a rookie because one is slightly more clean than the other. What this should have told him is one side is getting beat worse than the other.

Officer level leadership isn't always run by veterans. Much like the u.s military a lot of people become officers because they have a college degree or know someone.
The griffons are cocky at this point, why send their most experienced when at this point Equestria can barely put up a fight? Why not send the newest to get some form of experience even if it is wagging a brutal and lopsided war?
The other thing is this was supposed to show that the equestrian leadership had been badly decimated by the fighting. Your enlisted are usually the ones who carry the weight of things and get things done.
When your leadership is horribly disorganized due to losses, a low level NCO being sent out to deal with talks isn't impossible. Why waste what few officers you do have left when they're needed for leading troops in to battle for a military that still uses line formations?
Granted this was an earlier chapter and I don't have the energy or desire to go back and fix everything small or minor thing when it's equestria on it's last legs with only a few towns and cities left to it's country.
Especially considering how inept the royal guard has been shown to be in the show time and again.
Imagine taking a ceremonial army that hasn't seen full scale combat in hundreds of years and put them against the equivalent of a battle tested military like ours. It's just a trial by fire and a slaughter. You're forced to learn as you go and when you're numerically weaker too, well it's lucky they've held on for this long.
Might not have made that obvious and that happens.
I guess it comes to I down to behavior and attitude.
The griffin is cocky, arrogant, almost clean.
The pony is battle scarred, way out of his league, and still managing to stay up.
