Ahhhhhhh this is wonderful. Very touchy moments between the two, good detail before the conversation, and genuinely a very nice flow of the story. I’m surprised your first story was this good.
I love the fluff too- Very bittersweet.
One way I might try to spice it up is if you can try to make the moral of the story appear a little more secret. Expressing it passively, in my opinion, allows the reader to really think about what they read the story for- Then they can come to the understanding on their own. That’s how you know if they really enjoyed the story.

I think you don't have to worry about the pacing. Mostly thanks to the ending being open to interpretation. It's a nice, fluffy little piece.
