Lyra would you like to have a foal of your own
Dig 16 tons and whatya get?
Another day older and deeper in debt.
All the physical stuff for exercising, training, instincts and reactions etc make me ponder the possible subtelties of somepone who was always at the back. But whom Celestia might have the inkling to call Deadalus. But thats thinking of other things. Things that SMILE can make use of in other ways.
Better not feed Bottle Rocket any Metho Mints?
This is an amazing name for both a military pony and a great name for his personality.
Good chapter. It doesn't fall into the pitfall of making the EUP (or the Guard) just like militaries on Earth. As in, it isn't written by a veteran trying to make it exactly accurate with their experiences in Basic, nor is it written by someone who has no idea how a military functions, yet still tries to model it off of the rumors they hear.

9456335 I make no claim to being a member of the armed forces, that said I have heard (and read) accounts of such training. They're not trying to break ponies down here, they're just trying to instill in them the routines and discipline that they will need to be useful—also, fitness. Ponies are all individuals, and though a military seems like the antithesis of such, the E.U.P. Guard have enough specialist groups within their purview that they can afford to slot even the most outrageous of individuals into the right spot where they'll be useful.

Yep! As I said, you're definitely doing it right. Taking very good values and stuff from our own militaries (both my parents were in the Army), yet making everything very pony in the execution.
Depends on where you're putting it?

This was a great chapter and I liked Lyra and Sweetie's first day as EUP trainees.
An easy first day. Don't want to scare them off before they began.
Later in the officer debriefing: alright, how are we going to deal with the liability represented in Lyra and Sweetie?
Peeling potatoes is annoying with hooves!
