Timaeus

After a dozen books and twice as many adventures, there was little that could out-puzzle Daring Do. Ancient tombs, civilizations long forgotten, dastardly villains—she'd seen and bested them all. There wasn't a single adventure she hadn't conquered.

Though, as always, Rainbow Dash succeeds at proving to be the exception to the rule.

AT LAST! GLORY!

Well, you picked a fantastic time to post this. I have a long drive to McKinney, Texas, so I'll see if I can read the whole thing before the four and a half hours is up. Let's go!

EDIT: It's only a three and a half hour drive. Not as bad as I thought.

Go little adventure horses~ :rainbowkiss:

DAMNIT TIM D: this is glorious and I can't help but love it. :pinkiehappy:

First time reading a fic with this pairing in it. I regret reading it so fast.

You know, the only thing I dislike about this story is there wasn't an actual adventure. :rainbowlaugh: I mean, in a way, there was for me personally because I literally saw that you posted a story in my feed, said, "Hey, I haven't talked to that cool dude in a while. Let's see if he's got a good story." And then read the description and jumped in. I never read the tags, so I had my own mystery of piecing together what kind of story this was going to be.

I noticed your vivid descriptions of feelings, specifically of Daring's wings, and I noticed how mystified Daring seemingly was when she talked about the intimate details of Rainbow's figure, mannerisms, and eyes. The mane as well, but she was fixated quite a bit on her eyes and shoulders and wings. And her tail. God, Daring is starstruck in love with this made!

Anyway, I caught on rather quick, and that kind of broke the atmosphere for me at the very beginning. I was expecting a true adventure story due to the length, but I received two mares having a contest of who is more turned on. :rainbowlaugh: At least, it felt like it. The "Mystery Unsolved" in this story is why they didn't get it over with on the train.

I really feel like you could have been far more subtle with the shipping leading up to the anticlimactic reveal that they both like each other. There's nothing wrong with never having either of them admit they like each other until the end, but I think you need more than just that to make a great lead up. Once I knew this was a romance, all of the descriptions were cringeworthy.

However, this all being said, I loved the characterization of the two. Daring was spot on, if not better, because you are exploring a more mature side of her chapter that the show may never touch on. This allows for tons of creative freedom, and you ran out the gates and never slowed down with it. Rainbow was handled well with her unfettered determination and her unsure, hesitant side. The playful banter between the two was enjoyable as well, but I've already made my case on that. These two mesh well together, and once Rainbow confessed her true feelings, it felt real. It felt heartfelt and honest, but more importantly, it felt rather natural. I could invision these two together very easily based on what you have written, and that's a job well done.

While this was an excessively long story without a true adventure, it still felt adventurous for the two to explore the depths of their own feelings. That's very well played, and overall, I think this was a fantastic story. I think I may have enjoyed it more because I didn't look at the tags. I had no prior expectations, and the mystery of Rainbow's actions felt far more poignant because of it.

Once again, great story! I'm glad I spent the time reading this.

This story is great. I've got this little smile that I couldn't get rid of if I wanted to. Thank you.

YEEESSS

I love this. You made me love a ship. That doesn't just happen. You do magic fluff words

Huzzah! I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed reading it

DaringDash is one of those pairings that I feel would have more stories dedicated to it, but the pool seems sadly shallow. The only way to fix that is to write more, I suppose :pinkiecrazy:

Thank you for taking the time to put in such a lengthy comment. I appreciate the time that it takes to write up feedback that long. I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed the story overall! Daring and Rainbow are a lot of fun to write together, and I really did enjoy spending this small amount of time exploring that more mature side to Daring. That part of her was fascinating for me to write, and I really want to try and find more time to dedicate to writing her.

I was hoping to get some clarification on one thing you mentioned, though. When you mention that the descriptions became "cringeworthy" for you once you realized this was romance, what did you mean by that? As in, for example, Daring's descriptions of Rainbow Dash, or something else? I only ask because I know I have a tendency to go overboard with descriptions sometimes, and I do value whatever feedback I can receive.

Daring's description of Rainbow, yes. It was packed on too heavy from the beginning, and as you know, I had no prior idea what the story was going to truly be about, so it broke immersion for me . . . but only for a little bit. I can have friends attest that towards the end of the story, I was so hooked, they said my name eight times, and I didn't hear shit. They assumed I was looking at porn or something on my phone. Haha.

Either way, as I have already said, it was a good story. It was definitely worth the read.

This was cuter than a bat 'Shy's floof in winter. Oh so very worth the read. And a endearing start to their relationship. Kudos, please write more of them. A fluffy piece of their life together? And adventure some years into their courtship/marriage? Anything, as long as it's about those two? :raritystarry:

8476276
Dude, if you ever find yourself writing more DaringDash, I'll be there.

Glorious, absolutely glorious. Actually, there's really only one way to sum this piece of art up. CUE THE MUSIC!

8476448
Ah, thank you for clarifying. I know I have a tendency to go overboard sometimes, so again thank you for pointing that out. I'll keep it in mind and try to reel that in more in future stories. Either way, I am glad to hear that you enjoyed reading this!

Shhhhh, don't let 8474610 hear you. He'll never let me escape.

8476758
I'm not sure when, but I definitely plan on coming back to these two. I don't know if it'll be a continuation of this story or something else, but you can probably expect more from me on DaringDash. Or just Daring in general. Daring's awesome.

Very well done sir. I would love to see a sequel to this story.

That was a very fun read. Thank you for writing it, and doubly so for sharing it!

Thank you! Very happy to hear that you enjoyed it. If Carapace gets his way, something will happen. Plus, my will is weak and susceptible to DaringDash brainworms.

in contrast to the smooth, olive colouring of her fur.

Wait, what? When did Daring get a dye-job? She's tan, not green... you might have been thinking of her shirt/hatband?

Given how quickly this story came out after the Sonambula episode, and especially given the story's length and quality, I must say you work rather fast! Maybe even Rainbow Dash fast!

Plus, it's one of the few Dash-Do stories on the site, so yay! Have a Daring Do-shaped cookie!

Maybe a future story can feature them (spoilers from season finale:) meeting the actual Sonambula. Or have Quibble along.

This story has left quite the impression on me. Having randomly selected it as a story to give a try on the walk to work this morning I hadn't expected to end up as engrossed in your writing as I ended up being.

You have a way of describing subtle behaviors and expressions within dialogue that makes your characters very lively and believable, in a way that makes the story very engaging as well. It adds a lot of character depth, especially when combined with the main character's observations, and sets the tone of a scene incredibly well.

I quite enjoyed your depiction of Daring Do and Rainbow Dash, they play off of each other nicely, both in playful teasing, serious conversation and in cute awkward confessions. The references to earlier episodes only added to the enjoyment, and I may well be watching Daring Done in the near future again.

You make romance stories fun and playful, and with your descriptions actually make them feel genuine.
This story was cute and sweet and really well written.
Thank you for sharing it.

This was a delightful read, very well done and a wonderful nightcap for me before bed. Great job!

Rainbow’s tail flicked, brushing over the hem of her shawl. Instinct took over, and Daring swished her own tail to the side to return the playful, teasing gesture. Her frown deepened as her tail met the confines of her garment. A growing, squirming, swelling sensation took hold in the base of her stomach as a low hum build up in her companion’s throat.

There's so much flirting. I'mma die! Rainbow why!? Curse that bikini body! Don't quote or think about that part
