The year is 22xx and virtual and augmented reality have come a long way to the point of even with a modest set up anyone can enjoy it. All you need is a computer and a special set of glasses. With VAR computers are capable of taking any image or video and in real time extrapolate a fully 3 dimensional view through the glasses allowing people to quite literally be a ghostly observer of their favorite movies or TV shows.

Thomas an avid collector of old forms of media from the 20th and 21st centuries manages to get a hold of a rare set of master discs for the animated series My little pony Friendship is magic. He decides to run it though the augmented reality program and watch it for the first time as if he was there. Things quickly take a turn for the weird. Will he hurt or help those around him, only time will tell.

*Edit* Added the sex tag to this. There's nothing explicit nor anything actually happening, but since I mentioned it if figured I'd have to add the tag.

This is such an interesting idea and plot, I am loving it.

I thought the general idea was amazing. The storytelling is also phenomenal! This was a fun story to go over and I hope to see more of your work!

A very interesting concept. you have a fav and a like from me.

“That was better than I was expecting! After a quick lunch, on to episode 2.”

His reaction was pretty much mine back in the day. Not great, but I wasn't expecting great given that it was only a first episode, and it's age group. I moved on to part two, and things went from "Acceptable, but I don't see the reason for the craze" to "Okay, it IS getting a little better." to no longer skipping the cute intro, to, on episode 8, catching myself singing along.
and it seems he can act as a poltergeist in the show. Oh, the fun I'd have with that. That coupled along with the fact that I could replay an older episode and mess with them in another fashion like pausing and dumping a punch bowl on Rarity, then unpausing...ah, I'd have as much mischievous fun as Flowey. But less murdery.

Was scion a worm reference?

Nope it is not, or at least not an intentional one.

“Great I’ll take it!” Thomas reached for his wallet and pulled out the needed cash and hands it over.”

You've got an extra quotation mark at the end there.

“Here, try not to set this one on fire or I’m going to make sure using your pc becomes a monumental task.”

I don't get why she'd complain if it DID break down again. More money for her business.

And he hasn't tested to see what would happen if he re-inserted disk one on a different machine to see if it has the same problem? A Troubleshooter, he is not. If it did start at the start again, it'd be like that movie where the kid gets in the small car and drives through the toll-thing and ends up in a cartoon world. I don't remember what it was called.

Darn, and here I was hoping you'd name this chapter: "Thomas, the tank engine, and friends"

“She should be an interesting helper for you.” Laughing a bit. Each helper has a slightly different style in how they offer help. Now if you’ll let me see your device I’ll run a quick diagnostic on the program and make sure it’s running the way it’s supposed to.”

You're missing a quotation mark at the start, there.

I'm not that great with thinking up names. So most chapters will have a running theme. And added " where it need to be.

I need to be in bed. I need to be up at 6 tomorrow for a ten hour shift. But I can't stop reading this.

Thomas being the last one to enter gasps at the size of the beds. “ I know Celestia is bigger than your average pony but does she really have a bed this size?”

That quotation mark at the end should be attached to the next sentence.

And I'm done! Woosh! Time for bed at...midnight. Lovely. Well, my own fault, really.

Well im glad your enjoying it. At least i hope thats why you binged it. But this is the last chapter ive done so far. Will probably start working on the next one early next week.

He built his DVD drive, they're no longer a common thing to find so using these discs on another machine really isn't doable.

22XX, for when 20XX just isn't enough.

hehe, True, but I had to put it far enough into the future for things to work. 20XX just isn't far enough. Plus 20XX is too tied in with Megaman X to sound right being used for anything else.

“Aww that’s too bad I would have liked a tiny pony riding in me mane.” Pinkie bemoaned.

I'm glad to see an update, but you need to do a bit of proofreading. This wasn't the only error. Spellcheck only helps so much. Punctuation seems to be the main issue.

Pinkie walked over to the Curtain and pulled it aside just enough to see the street below.

why is that capitalized?

Thanks for the heads up will correct next chance i get on my pc.

In what chapter was the sex mentioned?

Nothing explicit, just the mention of sex bots. which is in chapter 5.

From what I've seen, it's a small business and she's probably angry because he asks for the rarest possible pieces of tech they have. Between small and large businesses there's a certain difference between how employees work. When in a small business with a regular costumer, employees learn that no matter what, most of the time they can get away with things like that.

You forget, SOMEHOW, that he doesn't HAVE access to another machine. Last chapter explained in EXTREME detail that he doesn't have another reader. And if there IS a problem, it wouldn't be with the com, it would be with the app, the disc, or the reader. Considering what I've seen, this guy spends most of his money on 21/20th century media, generally. And considering how expensive computers are today, I have no doubt that something more advanced would be marketed at a MUCH higher price than what's currently on the market, not everyone has three computers you know. Onto more about why the app wouldn't be at fault. The app itself has been tested MERCILESSLY by the VR community. He probably got the most tested version and the most credible source for the tech. We already know the disc reader isn't at fault since he replaced it after the disc killed it. So as a troubleshooter, there's really nothing he could do about figuring out what was wrong besides A) Literally go into the program's code files B) Get another computer after draining his pockets on VR tech and 21st century media C) Get a second reader[which was established to be overly expensive]. Now to defend why he didn't even try to troubleshoot. He just got the VR tech, so he probably wouldn't even know whereto start trouble shooting.

I don't have more than one computer either, Mr. Grumpy. When I want to test something in more than one computer, I ask a relative or a friend or an acquaintance for assistance. Still...doing so in this situation would likely have been very expensive if it DID have the same result. That alone might have been a good reason not to.

Onto more about why the app wouldn't be at fault.

More?? You didn't say anything about why it wasn't at fault earlier. :rainbowhuh:

And if there IS a problem, it wouldn't be with the com, it would be with the app, the disc, or the reader. Considering what I've seen, this guy spends most of his money on 21/20th century media, generally. This was about MONEY, not why the Application wasn't at fault. :facehoof:
-

The app itself has been tested MERCILESSLY by the VR community.

(Now you're talking about the application.) Something being tested "mercilessly' as you put it, can STILL glitch regardless, hence why even updated re-released games from companies made over twenty years ago (such as Ocarina of Time) can still glitch (such as falling through the ground into an empty abyss) under certain circumstances. Sometimes recent updates to a game or program can cause something that worked perfectly fine in the past to 'break'. (Happens all too often with Early-Release games on STEAM that are still under construction. Oxygen Not Included, for excellent example.)

He probably got the most tested version and the most credible source for the tech.

Probably, but it doesn't SAY that, so we don't actually know.
-

We already know the disc reader isn't at fault since he replaced it after the disc killed it.

Clearly you've been rather fortunate with electronics (and/or have never worked in a retail company's electronics department for more than a year). This computer right now- The first time I turned it on the motherboard shorted out and I needed to order another. Brand new, never used. New doesn't mean flawless. If a bad batch (so to speak) of the devices were made, though the chances of it are very small, he could well have received a replacement bearing the same flaw five times in a row. "Those whom are not perfect cannot create that which is."
-

Now to defend why he didn't even try to troubleshoot. He just got the VR tech, so he probably wouldn't even know whereto start trouble shooting.

Fair enough...except:

The app itself has been tested MERCILESSLY by the VR community.

Which means he WOULD know where to start: by asking the VR community if they'd had similar issues (even if they didn't use the same media format with it), and where to start in order to find the cause (assuming anyone else DID have a similar problem) and how to fix it. Sure, they might not have, and he'd be back to square one, but he still could have made that effort.

when I first saw the line about an ai project causing problems my first though was celestai, but this works too.

As much as i like friendship is optimal. This isnt that kind of story. There is no AI intent on turning humanity into ponies.

I actually have a theory that pinkie pies hair is a portal to another dimension, cause if you think about it, we see her take an unwrapped lollipop out of her hair/mane and eat it. If it was normal hair that lollipop would of been un eatable

"Were pretty close its just a few blocks over there"
Should be
We're pretty close,it's just a few blocks

Definitely worth the wait :)))))))))))
And good job with the job

Thanks it took me way too long to get one. Also hopefully the next chapter wont take so long.

Honesty - Deceit - Flim and Flam
Laughter - Despair - Gladmane
Kindness - Cruelty - ?
Generosity - Greed - ?
Loyalty - Treachery - ?
Magic - Power - ?
I shall be updating this as the story goes along... maybe

I haven't really had much experience in making something fairly mundane more dramatic.

Ok, if someone could make something as mundane as a clock ticking a lot more dramatic, I think you can make something like battleship clouds more dramatic.

I'm sure i can, its just figuring out the how.

No seasons per say, so it will have a finite end.

I'm almost done with the next chapter, but I can only write when I have nothing to do at work.

Well, I think you overshot by about 200 years

I wonder how a fourth wall breaker will effect the AR glasses
