I can't really buy this premise, because so what if they can't talk? You know your sibling, especially if you're the younger one and they've been present since you were a baby. The sound of their breathing, the way their fingers (or their hooves) feel, or especially their scent. No way, no way at all, that they don't know each other. At the very least Fluttershy would notice that the stallion she's with smells just like her brother and the feel of his hoof is just like her brother's, and it's only slightly less likely that Zephyr would know her, too.
But, y'know, as excuses for sex go, it's not bad. In fact, the darkness gives them plausible deniability for just having knowingly screwed their sibling. Maybe read it that way?

I didn't necessarily mean that stuff in a sexual context, I just mean, like ... when you hug them, there's a way that they tend to hold you, they have mannerisms that you become familiar with. And obviously, if you've ever been in physical proximity, you can smell them, right? All humans, or ponies as the case may be, have a unique scent; you don't even have to be a horse to be able to pick up on it, humans can do it too. Why are you calling me weird? C'mon ... I don't want to judge you either, if you're not as physically affectionate with your family, that's just as normal. I just honestly don't believe that 'most' people don't hug their family enough to know them apart from some random person they go to class with. This is a pony that Fluttershy grew up with. So how would she not get some indication that the pony she's kissing is him? Whether it was his scent or his breathing or whatever. He's been around her since she was a baby, he's much more familiar than a classmate.

Also, I have to agree with 8067625. At the very least, we do have to remember that these aren't people, they're ponies, and they have a sense of smell. Fluttershy would recognize that she wasn't kissing who she thought, especially if she's been into Thunderlane for a while and is probably familiar with and expecting his scent.
