The British Invasion

"Thank y'all for helping with my chores. Ah do appreciate y'all being round." Applejack said to her two helpers. "It's really a lot to do without Big Mac helping me."

"No problem Applejack." Twilight said as she placed the last bushel of apples in the apple cellar.

"Where is he by the way?" Fluttershy said closing the cellar doors.

"He and Granny Smith went to Golden Delicious's farm to help get rid of a silver beetle invasion, and on the way home they're going to stop by Apple Fritter's farm to check out her new strawberry fields." Applejack said, wishing they weren't so far away.

"When will they be back?" Twilight asked.

Applejack sighed. "The night before Saturday."

Fluttershy suddenly looked towards the Ponyville and saw someone running up the long and winding road towards Sweet Apple Acres. "Is that Spike?" She asked.

All three ponies turned as the purple and green dragon approached them, two parchment scrolls in his hands. "Twilight, you got a letter from the princess. I think your going to like this." He said as he unrolled the first scroll and gave it to Twilight who started to read it out loud.

My Faithful Student

As you know, I enjoy knowing that you are keeping up with your studies, but I'll tell you something I think you'll understand. I have noticed that lately you have been doing a lot of studying and nearly nothing else. You have been spending eight days a week preparing for minor exams that are months away. Luna once said that 'even she couldn't handle a day in the life of Twilight Sparkle'. And so I have decided to somewhat force you to take a break. enclosed in this letter is a pass for you, your friends and Spike to go see the new Beetles concert in Canterlot. Have fun.

Twilight finished the letter and looked at her friends. "Wow! A concert! This should be fun...uh Fluttershy, are you okay?

Fluttershy's eyes were as big as saucers and a grin formed on her face that was so big it could reach across the universe. "The Beetles!!! I can't believe it!! I'm just the lucky kind!"

Twilight looked confused. "Who are the Beetles?

Applejack waved a hoof dismissively. "They're just a band. A band that made it very big, that’s all. They've been going in and out of style."

Fluttershy stared at Applejack in astonishment. "They are NOT just a band! They are the best band in Equestria! Somepony even said they're more popular than Celestia! We're going right?"

Twilight shook her head. "I don't know."

Spike looked at twilight and sighed. "Come on Twilight. You know that the princess is always speaking words of wisdom, and if she says that you need a break then I think that you should let it be and go to the concert."

Twilight sighed, still not sure. "

Once Twilight sighed, Spike placed both his hands on Twilight's shoulders. "Every night when everyone has fun, there are you sitting all on your own. Twilight please listen, you don't know what your missing. The Beetles are the best!

Twilight finally relented. "Okay, fine, we can go. Lets get the rest of the gang to come together."

Applejack shook her head. "Oh, you can't do that! Pinkie's in Fillydelphia helping her uncle launch his yellow submarine in the races."

Twilight looked at Spike. "What about Rarity?"

Spike shook his head. "Sorry Twilight. She's too busy making outfits for the upcoming benefit for Mr. Kite."

Twilight looked at Fluttershy. "Rainbow?"

Fluttershy shrugged her shoulders. "She broke her wing again, remember? She's going nowhere man."

Twilight looked around at her friends. "So I guess I's going to be just us then. What does the other scroll say, Spike?"

Spike then noticed the other scroll. "Oh I forgot this one." He unrolled it.

"What does it say?" Applejack asked.

"Its for train number 9. We got a ticket to ride!" Spike said waving the parchment in the air.

"Great!" Applejack said before looking back towards the Apple house. "Maybe they listed the concert times in the Ponyville Express. Come on Twilight, lets go check."

After Twilight and Applejack left for the house, Spike turned to Fluttershy. "I never thought that you were into rock and roll."

Fluttershy leaned in towards Spike. "I didn't at first but one time when I was at one of Pinkie's parties, Vinyl started playing a medley of their songs, and before the dance was through I was hooked! Listen, do you wanna know a secret?" Spike nodded. "Do you promise not to tell?"

"Pinkie promise." Spike said making the necessary gesture to seal the promise.

Fluttershy cleared her throat and continued. "I have a secret crush on the lead singer John Lemon."

Spike raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Just like you have a 'secret crush' on Big Mac?"

Fluttershy's eyes grew as big as marshmallow pies and she backed up a bit. "How did you know about that?"

Spike started rocking on his heels and shrugged his shoulders. "I had a feeling. A feeling deep inside. Besides it was kinda obvious."

Fluttershy tried to hide behind her mane. After a while Twilight and Applejack returned to the others both looking a little worried.

Spike walked up to Twilight and asked her what was wrong.

Twilight sighed. "I read the news today, oh boy. The only concert today is in a few hours! we have to hurry to a train by a station if we want to make it.

Fluttershy started towards the front gate. "Well, what are waiting for? Lets go!" She then screamed in the air "I LOVE YOU JOHN LEMON AND ALL I WANT YOU TO DO IS JUST HOLD ME!!".

After a short train ride, the fab four found that they had a few hours before the concert, so they decided to take a magical mystery tour around Canterlot.

"And here..." Twilight said pointing to the sidewalk in front of the first national trust bank "Is where Sgt. Pepper blew his mind out in a cart."

Applejack scrunched up her nose at Twilight's last statement. "Grim Twilight. Why would you show us where somepony committed suicide?"

Spike shook his head. "Nah Applejack, It's just an expression. It means he was caught with hallucinogenic drugs like LSD. They stripped him of all his medals right in front of everyone!"

Applejack sighed in relief as the tour continued for a while. soon Twilight felt a tapping on her shoulder that was caused by the shy one.

"Um...Twilight..I don't mean to interrupt the tour, but...I mean if its okay...could you check to see if we're near the concert hall...if you don't mind."

Twilight nodded and looked at the map. "According to this, the hall is right at the intersection of Abbey Road and Penny Lane. Which is....right across the street! How about that!"

After they crossed single file across the crosswalk, they finally approached the ticket master.

"Welcome to the Canterlot Music Hall. My name is Yoko Madonna. Are you here for the Beetles concert?" She asked.

"You bet we are!" Fluttershy squealed.

"Very well. Tickets are thirty bits each. Now give me money, that's what I want."

Twilight started to reach into her saddlebag for the pass that Celestia gave her. "Actually we have a pass from Celestia herself, somewhere in here...where is it...Spike do you have the pass?" Twilight said starting to panic.

Spike glared at Twilight and shook his head. "I should have known better than to give you the pass. Now we're going to miss the show!"

Just as Twilight was going to go into full panic mode, Applejack taped her on the shoulder with her hoof. "Ya gave the pass to me while we were on the train, remember?" She then gave the pass to Yoko.

"Well let's see..." She said looking at the piece of parchment. "Well, a royal pass direct from the mare with the sun in her eyes! Hang on while I get somepony to verify this. She then called out to somepony through a wireless walkie-talkie. "HEY JUDE!"

"What?" Came her reply

"I need you to verify a pass for some ponies."

"Okay, I'll be right there, hang on."

After a short while another pony came out of the hall and walked up to Yoko to examine the document. " Hello everypony...and dragon." She said to the gang. "My name is Jude Starr. I'm just going to take a look at your pass and you should be on your way." After a short while she looked up at the gang. "Congratulations you got the royal box seats, numbers 1960 to 1964. We hope you will enjoy the show, sit back and let the evening go."

"Thank you!" fluttershy said excitingly as they entered the lobby and weaved their way through the crowd to their box seats near the stage. Just as they grabbed some popcorn and found their seats, the lights dimmed and the concert began with some rock and roll music.

Fluttershy was singing as she walked out of the concert hall with Spike on her back sining back-up.

"Well, shake it up, pony, now"

"(Shake it up, pony)"

"Twist and shout"

Applejack nudged Twilight and leaned in close to her ear. "Ah don't think ah've ever seen Fluttershy so excited in all the years ah've known her, even when Angel had his first date!

Twilight chuckled a little at the thought of Angel on a date before looking towards the sky and spotting Mr. Moonlight creep across the nighttime sky. "So, what do you want to do now?" she asked her three friends.

Applejack gave a yawn and said "Well, I got a lot to do tomorrow at the farm and I should be sleeping like a log".

Fluttershy nodded in agreement. "How about we all get back to where we once belonged?"

Twilight yawned and said "That sounds great!".

Twilight gently placed the sleeping dragon into his basket before climbing into her own bed. She could hear Spike mumbling Beetle lyrics in his sleep which caused Twilight's heart to melt a little. She had to admit though, she wasn't as much of a fan of The Beetles as Fluttershy was, but she did like them just a little, and maybe she could be a fan eventually. But as they say...............................Tomorrow never knows.

Ya know, as I read, I was thinking EXACTLY of that episode of Powerpuff Girls called "Meet the Beat-Alls".

That said, this was WONDERFUL! I loved every single little reference, whether it was very obvious or extremely subtle. It was fun just to spot them, and I think that's what is the main point of the fic, just as the PPG episode. Being a huge Beatles fan, I love all the references here!
