Yeah, this is pretty much the second thing that I thought of after watching the episode. Dash does strike me as the kind of pony who would have watched way too many zombie movies.
I'm reminded of an alternate ending comic, where Rainbow performs a kamikaze rainboom to destroy the "horde".
Sometimes, true loyalty is providing mercy where none was needed.
