Hooray! Update. Once again the incompetence of Alicorns dooms the world. Evil appreciates the stupidity of Good. Still hoping that Moon and Sombra join forces in a union of unholy matrimony. It's a match made in Hell.
7566002 I would not call it exactly incompetence, but rather an underestimation of Nightmare Moon's abilities. After all, the only time when the Elements failed was when Spike became the new Rainbow Dash.

her personality is complex, the result of a difficult and dark past, worthy of Machiavelli.
The music was a casual choice, but that in the end it proved to be appropriate in my opinion. There are a few Halo references in this chapter. I was planning at first to make her armor float in place like the one of the Didact

Forgive me for not thinking highly of people who employ child soldiers to fight their battles. But then again with an armed force as effective as a broken pencil, beggars can't be choosers.

I understand you point of view, however I would not call Spike a child soldier, considering that he can swim in the lava without problems and can destroy a a lock with one of his overpowered belches

I like to contextualize situations: the show purposely shows the guards as incompetent individuals because otherwise there would be no need for Twilight and her friends. And as Nightmare Moon notices in this chapter, the guards are not trained to deal against enemies with supernatural powers (at least, this is what I like to think: they may have the will, but they don't have the power)

Fair enough points. I just think that Alicorns create more problems than they solve.
The story's really good. ^_^ Although, in this case, I don't care much for all the characters being anthro, hard to visualise them as anything but their pony forms ya know. At least without a decent reference. ^^;

Well, from one side Sombra and Nightmare both have alicorns and Equestria as common enemies. On another side, Sombra and Nightmare have their differences, so they can only unite against common enemy. Again, this battle in Canterlot can be just a ploy for Nightmare to gain common ground with Sombra here - as "my enemy's enemy", and then strike him from behind. Althrough I see this as unlikely, as Nightmare is not one to use subterfuge.
So, waiting for a new chapter.
