not bad i'll see where this goes and to the haters out there this is fanfiction meaning it is up to each writer to decide what the want to write and so what if someone wants to write something thats been done before lots of things have been done before we're just doing our way anyways let me know if you need any help with the halo univeres for cannon sake or anything i would be glad to help
"It’s so exciting talking to a real alien! I’d like to see what kind of things he can do. Or hear stories about the places he’s been and the things he’s done.”
in my mind i was like... KILL KILL KILL KILL and went to save a planet that is destroyed... and... KILL KILL KILL KILL!!!!!
...When did the quadruped-ponies become bi-pedal anthros?
The last two sentence kinda killed it for me. Way too much information that could have been a nice scene crammed into them.
"The word 'alicorn' came to mind"
What?... How'd someone actually come up with that word?
And as stated before the ending of this chapter was obviously rushed.
1820285 Perhaps I can be of some assistance! I believe your confusion stems from the use of the word "sapient" in this chapter.
Merriam-Webster online defines "sentient" thusly:
Whereas "sapient" is defined as:
That is to say, sapient refers to wisdom, (or in a more esoteric sense, culture) whereas sentience simply refers to self-awareness.
The ponies of the MLP universe are anthropomorphised in that their facial features as well as language and mannerisms are largely modeled after those of human beings, so as to make them more sympathetic in the context of the show; "Anthro" has connotations in this fandom of referring to humanoid body structure. In another sense, though, it can be considered less literal. This is the sense that I believe the author is intending to convey.
It's an understandable misperception.
Now, having attempted to clear up what I believe is Ghost-091's misperception, I'll move on to my comment on the story thus far.
The premise is interesting and holds a great deal of potential for fun interaction and exploration of your writing style. I would encourage you to take your time; many of the events you're discussing are rushed. I understand how that happens; you have these ideas in your head of the interaction, and it's easy to forget that your ideas won't be conveyed quite as you're seeing them with the succinct nature of your pacing.
Draw the interactions out, and really show the readers the depths of the dynamic between these characters whose cultures should, by all reasonable expectation, cause some serious clashes. Humanity has just recently ended a major military conflict with the first conglomeration of alien beings it has ever encountered. Considering the length of that conflict (the Halo wiki purports it to be some 28 years - my knowledge of Halo lore is somewhat limited, so if this figure is off-base, I apologize, but the point stands that it was a drawn-out conflict) one can expect that Humanity's intentions and approach with regards to first contact would be affected by the scope of their experience thus far.
Would humanity, bearing in mind that last point, have been so willing to directly engage a new race of sentient beings? Personally, I doubt it. Most likely, they would maintain the Cole protocol and avoid anything that might risk the discovery of Earth's existence. In fact, the very nature of that protocol should be indicative to the author of Humanity's opinion of alien culture.
Regardless of this inconsistency, I will read this story with great interest and optimistic enthusiasm. So far, this piece has been enjoyable, though its author's technical skill could, with respect, use some maturation. Well done, TJbrena. I hope to see more from you as your skill increases. When I finish reading this story I should investigate you further and read newer works, should any exist.
I can't view the second image. Maybe it's me using a tablet? I don't know.
