Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer's new bond is tested when Twilight's lab and research are placed in jeopardy. The girls vow to see through the hardships ahead, but Twilight wishes she could just see more of Sunset. Ideally, in less clothes.
1. they did not trick cinch they pointed out no one would belive her
2. it would be verry easy to break this little threat from her threaten legal action she cares far to much about her reputation to ever risk a media circus of a sweet and adorkable girl like twilight getting on camera talking about how mean cinch is and we know the other shadow bolts would back up this claim as we saw they are good people and cinchs hold over them was broken in the end when they stood up to her
3. refusing to get others involved just makes the drama feel forced as hell you present a solution then back out of using it for no reason
7064363 And the best part? Everything would still be there. Nothing broken, nothing damaged, nothing stolen. Everything would just be in smaller parts... And maybe scattered and mixed together. Good luck trying to sort that mess out.
In all seriousness though, that hard drive would definitely be copied and wiped... Maybe some blueprints/notes copied and altered
I do agree that there is more that they could do to fight this situation through legal means. Since I believe that Twilight wouldn't have signed any forms waving her right to her intelectual property. Meaning in my professional unprofessional opinion, even if she used CP funds and equipment, she would still own the product of her research.
That being said, I think sabotage would be a good way to go. I mean, there's got to be something in the lab that can be turned into an EMP generator that could be 'accidentaly' left where it could be easily triggered. ;)
Eeeh. I'm gonna keep reading because apparently the romance is solid gold (and it has been very good so far), but holy crap is this drama badly written. To say that Cinch would have any power whatsoever over the girl who she blackmailed, threatened, and recklessly endangered is laughable at best, and outright stupid at worst.
Twilight spent school hours in a private laboratory setup that she worked in with minimal supervision. There would have been forms to schedule this, set a budget, get parental consent. Somewhere in that mess would be a disposition of assets, real and otherwise, that came from her research. And if this was in any way realistic, it would be a lot closer to Cinch's interpretation than Twilight's.
When you engage with an institution for resources, they are going to expect a return. You are not going to be able to take their money and leave them with nothing. The nature of who controls what will be spelled out explicitly, especially in a temporary arrangement such as that of a school student. And I am pretty sure hardware won't be on the list of things Twilight would be entitled to keep.
Twilight's basically trying to steal from Crystal Prep, and it's Cinch's duty to stop her. She's overly cruel in doing so and may well have understated how much Twilight is entitled to, particularly in the form of copies of notes and data, but if you ignore how she's doing it and focus only on what Cinch is doing, she's completely in the right.
I don't like storytelling where consequences the protagonist faces are automatically evil. Being the good guy doesn't make a character exempt from the rules. If anything, dealing with others fairly and with grace is a virtue.
What a bitch. In the information given, Crystal Prep is a Steel Mill. At no point did The Steel Mill ask for, nor demand anything in return. Twilight, NOT The Steel Mill spent the time, effort, sleep, and brainpower to design and build the Empire State, Chrysler Building, and Eiffel Tower. The Steel Mill, who it should be noted DID NOT say before giving Twilight the steel needed, say she had to give any of it back, and demanding so after the fact is ludicrous.
Holy hell is Cinch stupid. Her claim is as ludicrous as the maker of my notebook claiming ownership of my writing. I want to punch her in the face till the concept of intellectual property seeps into her idiot brain.
7739313 while technically correct, this is an after class high school activity. IE there is NO profit margin expected and no expectation of keeping ownership of said material. Cinch said it herself. 'a change of plans.' Cinch changed a preexisting agreement out of spite
A couple of things bothered me about this chapter.
First, if Twilight bought the equipment, the school (our any other government entity) is constitutionally required to compensate her. Although, this might have been gotten around if she was required to donate it to the school to put it in the lab.
Second, Twilight's work -- blueprints, etc. -- still belong to her. She wasn't working for the school as a researcher, and a student.
Third, Cinch is a principal. Not a governor or a mayor, a single principal. Even discounting the possibly of resorting to the court of public opinion, there are a lot of realistic avenues to oppose her effectively, some of which Sunset mentions. While, as a student, Twilight may see the principal as and ultimate authority, Sunset was Celestia's student and shouldn't accept Cinch and the school board acting as tyrants or not seeking help in opposing them.
8157702 there is one flaw in your logic and that is the first part. Twilight didn't use her money, she used the schools science budget which legally belongs to the school.
however you are right in the other two, twilight has claims to keep anything she built or made in said class (blueprints, schematics, projects, etc) due to being granted the materials to make them. and the fact that Cinch even has pull is outrageous unless she was a part of the board before she left to become principal or she has friends in said board.
Cinch straightened herself up, smoothed her blouse and walked out. Stopping at the door, she added, "Oh, and we've already taken inventory of everything in the room. I will know if you try to steal anything on your way out."
"I'd been in Cinch's good graces as a model student for so long that I'd forgotten." Twilight squeezed Sunset's hand. "Not anymore, though. I know what she's capable of now, and I don't want our friends to get hurt by her. I don't—" Twilight looked into Sunset's eyes. "I don't want her to take you away... from me."
ok some issues with this chapter

Pull the harddrive's data, format the computer, and spend the rest of the weekend gleefully dismantling everything in the room. Mwahahaha.

7064363 Same as what i was thinking but sabotage some of the equipment to monumentally fail if they try and use it.

Everybody talking about problems with the chapter, and all I have to say is I think you got how they beat Cinch in the end wrong.
Redundant and.
Lots of passion, not a lot of reality.

You are absolutely correct but for the sake of the story that's how it goes
