A parental reaction is a dangerous, and often destructive force that one should not take lightly.
If you come across a cute bear cub, and decide to play with it, with no intent to do it harm whatsoever, you would get the exact same parental reaction from the mother bear as someone who meant to do it harm. You would get mauled.
If you tried playing with a chick who's mother was nearby, the parental reaction would be an angry peck.
If you have a lion and a tiger cub get into a fight, and the lion cub gets injured, the mother would then kill the tiger cub, which would prompt the father tiger to get into a fight with the mother lion, and an all out battle would ensue, unless the lion cub stood in between the two as a peacemaker.
If you equate the lion cub to Sunset Shimmer, and the tiger cub to the students of CHS, then you can easily see that the mother lion would be Princess Celestia, while the tiger father would be theoutraged parents of the CHS students who were currently in Canterlot, Equestria.
Three days had passed since the students who were responsible for what had happened to Sunset, had been transported to Equestria, and understandably, the parents and families of said students were now anxious and worried after having learned from baffled police officers that their children were now missing.
Knowing CHS' reputation for magical phenomena, Principal Celestia was now being bombarded with angry phone calls demanding they know what happened to their children.
It had gotten so bad, she had disconnected her landline, and changed her cell, so that only Luna would know how to contact her.
Each passing day boosted her confidence to just quit her job as Principal, before she would have to go back there after the winter break.
..............................
Christmas came and went, with nothing to celebrate or be happy about... Nothing except the fact that Sunset was slowly becoming more coherent with each passing day. For Twilight....that was enough.
She and Spike went to the hospital everyday, encouraging Sunset to use her voice as much as she could. Each day saw improvement.
Soon, a full ten days passed since the attack, and New Years once again saw Twilight and Spike inside the hospital room with Sunset. The other four girls had tried coming to see Sunset since, but there was such a poisonous feel to the air with Twilight and the girls being in the same room together for so long, eventually, they had given up coming. It was clear Twilight did not want them there.
"Twi..." Sunset began, sounding a little unsure of herself. "Did...Dash help set me up?.."
There was a long silence. Finally, Twilight sighed.
"...How did you know?.." Twilight asked quietly.
"...Gilda told me." She whispered. "...More like used it as a means to mock me."
Twilight felt her hands clench in anger. She felt like she could murder Gilda.
"I just...was hoping that maybe she had lied about it..." Sunset sounded so weak, so broken...
"Sunset..." Twilight said quietly. "Don't even think about them."
Sunset gulped as she felt tears sting her eyes. "They're all I'm going to be able to think about for a long time Twi... and even if I can ever forget...I've got a constant reminder branded into me." She finished bitterly. Neither of them said anything more for a long time after that.
"...That may be true Sunset..." Twilight spoke again. "But I assure you, you will never have to worry about them again."
Sunset gave a bitter chuckle. "I'm sure...But it's more the fact that I even had to worry about them in the first place..."
"They'll get what they deserve." Twilight assured, in a surprisingly hostile voice.
Sunset looked at Twilight, a bit surprised. Twilight gave her a knowing smirk, lowering her voice.
"They are currently in the Canterlot dungeon..." She said quietly.
"You...brought them to Equestria?" Sunset asked, surprised.
"We figured it would be more appropriate to bring them there, to Equestria, to serve a proper sentence." Twilight explained.
"Define..."Proper sentence"..." Sunset was growing increasingly worried. She didn't like where this was going.
"Well, Celestia figured 75 years in the dungeon, and then being trapped in stone for another thousand years would be a good start..."
Sunset couldn't believe how nonchalantly Twilight was talking about this.
"And...how did their families react to learning of all this?.."
Twilight frowned. "Sunset, we didn't exactly go around asking the families for permission to do this."
"Ok...well, how often do you send them back to see their families?"
Twilight cocked her head. "Sunset, they don't go back. Ever."
"Excuse me?...You don't let them visit their families? Or rather, have their families visit them?.."
"No Sunset, they are there to stay."
"That...That doesn't seem right..."
"Of course it is! This is justice!" Twilight argued.
"Twilight..." Sunset sighed. "Was it really justice you were seeking when you and Celestia took them over there without a care in the world of their families?"
"I really wasn't thinking too much of their families at all, as much as I was about those who actually did this themselves!"
Twilight's voice went down to barely above a whisper.
"They tried tokill you Sunset...They deserve this. Why would you even try arguing their case?"
"Two wrongs don't make a right Twilight."
"This is justice!" Twilight insisted.
"This is not justice Twilight. You and Celestia ripped thirty people from their families with no intention of ever letting them go back to visit or anything. You have as good as kidnapped them from their own world and families...This is not justice...This is revenge." She put her head down.
"...And I've seen firsthand what a vengeful attitude can do..." She looked back up at Twilight.
"Send them back..." She said quietly.
"I...What?" Twilight was utterly confused.
"Send them back Twilight. Back to their own world...back here."
"...But-"
"I won't have another friend being corrupted. By the sounds of it, both you, and Celestia are going down the same path Rainbow did."
"I...What about their sentence?"
"This world has a judicial system too Twilight."
"But...it would only be ten to twenty years in jail!"
"So let it be ten to twenty years... At least it would be dealt in a fair way, without biase."
"Biase?? Do you forget what they did???" Twilight cried.
There was a pause, before Sunset slowly put her hand to her cheek, over the brand mark.
"No..." She whispered. "And I never will..." She looked back at Twilight.
"This is what I want Twi..." There was a long pause, before Twilight finally sighed.
"Alright...Alright Sunset, if that is what you really want... then I will respect that."
"It is Twi..." A thought suddenly occured to her.
"Twi...Is Dash there too?"
"...Yes..."
"When you send them back, I want to speak with her."
"...Alright." There was another long silence.
"Do...Do you know who Anon-A-Miss actually turned out to be?.."
Twilight took a deep breath.
"...It was Applebloom, Sweetiebelle, and Scootaloo..." She whispered.
Sunset slowly nodded, her suspicions confirmed.
"...I want to speak with them too."
Well at least Sunset has some sense.... even though they deserve to rot for what they done.
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to decide how far one will go between Justice and revenge.
Good on ya Sunset for talking some sense into Twilight. Now we can only hope Twilight will be able to get through to Princess Celestia, which will probably be as easy as trying to fix the national debt.
You know I kinda saw this comin'.
You tell her Sunset!
I can't see Celestia reacting well to Sunset's request.
Besides, the CHS students will probably be psychologically scared for life after what Celestia's done to them.
And who will teach her a lesson?
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
hmmm... sunsets being responsible and rational. dont know if i agree with her or not, eh doesn't matter.
*stands there with angry mob of parents and Sunset*
WE WANT PRINCESS CELESTIA'S HEAD!!!!
WE WANT TWILIGHT SPARKLE'S HEAD!!!!!!
Even if Celestia put returned them back home, the damage is already done. As much as I want to see them harshly punished, I also agree that Celestia want too far and made things worse.
Since Glida and her flunkies planned their attack and even after beating her bloody wanted to kill her(or at least Glida did), couldn't they be charged as adults?
You know, I do agree with Sunset here. The families of those 30 students do not need to be the ones suffering as a result of the students' incompetence. I just hope Sunset doesn't have too much trying to convince Celestia otherwise.
8482053
Sunset Shimmer,Secret Element of Understanding. Not to be confused with Understanding.
I really hope princess Celastia drives it in that the only reason the kid are/may return/ed is by her own self control and sunset's forgiveness
8482081
Things are complicated, and vary by state, and so forth.
"Ten to twenty years," is already assuming that they'll be tried as adults, though.
8482167
Doesnt matter thier reps are ruined Gilda for sure will get that sentence with her history, if her parents don't kill her first.
For the rest, thier lives are ruined they be remembred as bunch of lunatics who tried to murdered ainnocent person, tortured and branded her, good luck with any of them getting decent jobs or anything.
the parents try to protest let Susnet show up with her wounds and brand. Ina wheel chair, to show just what little mosnters they have for kids.
Princess Celestia went too far. I could see another Princess Celestia vs Sunset Shimmer fight coming up. I don't think Twilight will be able to change Celestia's mind. I think it may need Sunset and Princess Luna to work together with Discord to show them that they are doing exactly the same thing that the students did. Once Twilight fully realizes she was letting her anger and hate control her she would stand with Sunset.
I sense A sneak and breakout mission for sunset into Equestria. She may even have to fight a corrupted Twilight and Celestia.
8482081
That and that did technically brake out of Police custody will fully or not
8482113
that reference is perfect and probably
Oops forgot the red large letters
Yay, another chapter. this story is so awesome.
8482081
it also means they can't argue any of the possible defensive points or hope for a lesser charge, this isn't attempted manslaughter, it's attempted murder, as well as assault and torture and kidnapping. i don't think twenty years would quite cover there jail time.
IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE THIS STORY CONTINUED :D
Either way, those kids who hurt Sunset will be traumatized. Especially Rainbow Dash, Gilda and Brand Iron Guy. Those three deserve a much worse punishment than everyone else.
saw this coming.
cant wait to see what happens next
this WILL have consequences. hell they might not even get charged with sunsets crime over this.
Okay, okay. Everyone's talking about Sunset and Celestia and how everyone should be hanged. But I'm focused on another thing: Actual realistic jail time.
Here's my source.
Gilda:
Attempted Murder
Kidnapping
False Imprisonment
Torture
Each sentence can be up to life in prison. Gilda would likely serve AT THE VERY LEAST 20+ years in prison.
RD:
Accessory to a Felony
Despite the fact that what she did was wrong, RD barely violated any laws. The one she did violate was being accessory to a felony. Which, according to this, means that RD herself didn't commit a felony. And seeing that RD is indefinitely guilty fir what she did, she never intended it to go that far, and the fact that people rarely get charged as felons for a crime like this, especially at her age, RD will probably get a lighter sentence compared to everyone else. A year or two if she's not too lucky.
Other cronies:
Various crimes, all with maximum life sentences.
So I range them all from 10-30 years in the slammer.
It all depends on how much anger or hatred Sunset feels against each of them, how the jury sees them, ect.
So in conclusion, RD should serve two years and then go on with her life, living in deep regret till the day she dies. Whether or not her life is ruined is a whole nother issue entirely.
Most of the cronies will get out over the span of 30 years, while Gilda will indefinitely rot at for least 30 years.
Wow, two updates within one day of each other?
Sweet.
At the moment, how things get resolved would mostly depend on Celestia.
Which makes me wonder, what happens if Celestia hears Sunset's request, and chooses to ignore it?
Would anyone really be able to do anything about it?
I don't THINK she's so much of an emotional wreck right now that she'd actually do something like that, but it's still an interesting thought.
Bias.
8482781
This is an excellent point. While it's fair to point out that Celestia is lashing out in anger, people are also greatly underselling the actual guilt of the students in question. A life sentence without parole *is appropriate*, it just needs to be handed down by a neutral party. It does not necessarily need to go to the human courts, however; Equestrian courts would be more just anyway.
Although if Sunset actually does die, all the students can potentially eat life sentences under the felony murder rule.
Do the principles have the same amount of power in equetria?
I really love how morally gray Celestia and Twi are. A dark gray, but that's a nice change from the black and white I normally see, attack removed of course.
Executions for everyone !
Honestly an existence encased in stone, depending if they are or are not aware, can be argued to be a kindness compared to the human world. Assuming the other side of the mirror has a judicial system like america. Everyone involved pretty much has no future. forget scholarships, forget ever getting into a worthwhile university, forget having a good career. They are all marked, fucked, just like all real life juvenile delinquents and criminals. A few might get lucky and gain a measure of a better life, but most, if we go by statistics, are doomed.
Im sure sunset can get a skin graft as a human to remove the brand, or magic could fix it. If such a wound can be fixed or at least reduced by human technology, im sure magic can do better. I hope author doesn't go unrealistic as shit and has her forgive anyone, its too soon. Shit, i dont think forgiving people that harm you is something that's necessary. you are perfectly capable of not caring anymore and moving on, removing said people from your life, never speaking to them again.
As for her mental/emotional state, and the same for everyone else. Speaking from experience, you dont quite ever fully recover or move on from that. okay no you can sorta move on, but it will always be therein the background. Trauma breaks you, you can never be what you used to be, you just have to accept what you became after. Like a broken plate thats glued together again. the cracks are there.
I can understand why Twilight Sparkle and Celestria wanting revenge but revenge doesn't work but when I had a chance at revenge and I didn't take it felt good but if I had learned that this person would still be a bully to me then I should have gotten my revenge. Sunset is right.
You know, I kinda guessed that might happen. With Sunset having to play peacemaker with Celestia and the rest of CHS...... I'm glad this is the way things seem to be going.
It does what you intended with this story, from what I can see. Your showing Celestia's motherly side, and her flaws that the community has seen. Making her feel more relatable to those of us whom have a naturally higher protectiveness over their family and loved ones. It shows Twilight aswell being forced to look at two paths and being forced to decide, she could try for the much harder path of letting that earth put them through their version of the judicial system, which in her eyes would be going too easy on them, or to take the easier path and take them to Equestria to be punished by their laws, which seem more harsh in contrast.
Finally we get Sunset, the one who became an illegal alien and left her homeland to live in an alternate dimension. She's wronged others, worked hard for forgiveness, fought for those she's wronged, and been beaten, tortured, and all around nearly killed by those she has tried to make amends with. She by far has the hardest decision, because forgiveness is never easy. You can't just forget something like this, because she will now forever hold this in her memories and be continuously reminded of it each time she looks in a mirror, touches her face, or hell when making any type of facial expression due to how the scar tissue is gonna just pull each time she smiles or frowns or anything. She has to make the same decision as Twilight, the only key difference here is that she was the victim and must decide whats going too far.
Everyone say what you will, but this is a story that is capturing some of the truest essences of these characters. They have reasons, depth, logic, and goals that while a little twisted or warped, they are still perfectly like our world. Mostly in the way that not everyone has the same morals or sense to do or not to do something like what Celestia pulled. I know if I was a parent and some kids jumped my child nearly killing them I'd straight up try and kill them myself if there wasn't someone there to stop me. And even then I'd sue their families. Taking that into account what Celestia did is perfectly understandable due to being a grieving mother who has the very real possibility of losing her daughter because of a bunch of high schooler's attacking her child and nearly killing her.
Hope ya'll have a wonderful day, still loving the story 100% and glad it's continuing.
Sincerely,
Sar Meister

Exactly! My love of their despair reaches his level. Y'know, you're only like, the 2nd person to understand that reference.
I got to this part and the only thing I could think was "... oh holy mother of shit..."
8482049
I mean... I'll take them being psychologically scarred compared to what they did to Sunset. It drives home exactly what they did and who it's possible for them to piss off. Maybe now, they won't be guided by their anger as much.
8482089
no their fault for not rasing those kids right./
not happy with this chapter.
Well fuck. This is getting interesting.
I am very much anticipating the next chapter. Things are coming to a climax, and I'm anxious to see how this will be resolved.
Need more chapters!
8760375
Yeah see! Makes sense
8482038
never confuse Justice with vengeance
Also quoting the Punisher
Wow that was intense but sunset is gonna have to go through a lot. Years of phsyo therapy along with another huge amount of her live with reagular therapy she might never walk again with the spineal cord injury every night for a good portion of her live she will have nightmare every time she sees those kids she may have flash backs every time she closes her eyes for a while she could have flash backs but yet she was still like bring them back and this ain’t justice it’s revenge I give props
Hi there :)
You're doing an amazing thing here (and not you've done 'cause I believe you'll impress me with the next chapters), a story that I've read countless times, a story that is in a top in my favourites and that I'm ready to keep up with, for any chapter as long as it takes, because it makes it worth to wait.
Dunno if Dainn heard about you but I hope you got some recognition, if not by him then usually here.
So keep going!
I really prefer the more realistic turn this tookin comparisonto the other story that started this way. The whole siren queen plot felt so left field in that.
I also like that people aren't just like, "yeah okay. Punish them forever"
But yeah. I really like this telling. Too often characters take damageand its just brushed off or suddenly healed later.
Went will u update I was soooo in love in this story u make "
Sunset's a better person than me, I'd be like forget the jail time and go straight to the statue imprisonment
Seriously though I doubt Celestia will keep them there. She'll probably send them back psychologically scarred for life after a few days or so
Crooked.
Friendly word of advice, link to that story. Please respond to this comment.
