Chapter 5

Chap 5 “Making new friends

Another beautiful day in Sweet Apple Acres, Rainbow Dash was resting in the barn. She opened her eyes, yawned and noticed that she was somewhere else. It appeared to be she was inside a barn. There were a pile of apples near her where she was laying on the haystack and saw a bucket of water.

“Where the hay am I?” She wonder.

“Howdy there stranger,” Applejack talked to her, however she scared Rainbow Dash as she flew up fast and hit her head on the wall. “Hehehe whoops didn't mean to scare ya.” Applejack smiled and called out to Rainbow dash.

Rainbow Dash rubbed her head and flapped down slowly. “Ugh my head.” She shook her head and looked at Applejack.

“I'm Applejack what's yours?” as she lift her right hoof to shake Rainbow Dash hoof to greet.

“Uhhhh I’m Rainbow Dash.” Dash said as she lifted her hoof too.

“Well nice to meet ya Rainbow Dash” Applejack happily shook her hoof.

“Yeah,” Rainbow Dash said in a confused voice. “What happened? How did I get here?” She said giving a worried expression as she looked at Applejack.

“Well my little sister spotted you near a tree; she figured you didn't look well so she told me and my brother Big Mac. So we came saw ya and decide to bring you here.”

Rainbow Dash was about to walk to the door and was halted when Applejack grabbed her tail.

“Whoa whoa what you're doing?”

“I must get home.” Rainbow Dash said hastily.

Applejack released her tail from her mouth, but put a hoof on her tail so she wouldn’t leave.
“I’m afraid I can't let you go yet.”

“Why not???” Rainbow Dash said in an aggravated tone.

“You’re weak and we called a doc here to look at you. He said your body is not fully recovered, you must stay here with us till you get better.”

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes. “And how long it will that take?”

“Hmmmm well according to the doctor you must stay here for three weeks.”

“WHAT?!?!?!” Rainbow Dash said in disbelief. “Ugh but I must get home and see if my mother is okay.”

“I'm sure your mother is okay Rainbow Dash since you're here for couple weeks you can send her a letter.” Rainbow Dash remained silent. “It is the best choice for you at the moment.” Applejack looked at her.

“Argh all right, but what am I going to do here for three weeks?”

“Well since you can't be in the barn a lot Granny Smith, my grandma, knows your here and decided to make a guest room for you there is a bed in there for you to sleep and rest, I’ll take you there.”

Rainbow Dash nodded and followed Applejack to her house. As they walked inside they walked to the hallway and to the right was the guest room the bed was wooden, but luckily they had a mattress on it with two soft pillows and a comfy cover sheet the room looked like from the 19th centuries.

“Lunch will be done soon so just check out your room for now as,” Applejack smiled at Rainbow Dash. “Oh bathroom is across from your room I’ll see you later.” She said with a bright smile then closed the door.

Rainbow Dash went to the window and looked outside “Three weeks??? Why that long?” A bell rang and Rainbow Dash didn't know what it was for so she went to the bed lay down and held her head with her hoofs. She heard a knock at the door it opened and this time it was Granny Smith.

“Well hi there sweetie are you hungry?” Rainbow dash stomach growled.

“I suppose I am.”

“Well follow me to the kitchen dearie.” She got up and followed Granny Smith to the kitchen. They arrived and Rainbow Dash saw, Applejack, Applebloom and Big Mac sitting at the table eating their lunch. She felt a bit shy as she slowly sat on a chair.

“Oh hi there, I'm Applebloom.” She said looking at Dash with a messy, food covered face. Lunch was mac and cheese.

“Ummmmm hello,” Rainbow Dash said while looking at her with a look of disgust. “I’m Rainbow Dash. Granny smith handed Rainbow Dash some food.

“Eat up!” She said while walking over to the stove to clean up the mess.

“So I was thinking Rainbow Dash,” Applejack said, talking to her while eating her mac and cheese. “After lunch I want to take you to Ponyville to meet my other friends.”

Rainbow dash was twirling the cheesy noodles around. “Ok?” She had a look like that read ‘she didn’t want to.’

“You're going to be here for several weeks I figure making some friends may be fun; I mean we are already friends.”

“We are?” Dash said with a confused look.

“Of course we are sugarcube.” She gently tapped Rainbow Dash. Lunch was done Rainbow Dash put her bowl in the sink and walked outside she spread out her wings.

“Oh, no flying.” Applejack stated

“Why not???”

“Because I got that feeling you're trying to get away.”

Rainbow Dash sighed, Argh she knew what was on her mind.

“In that case I may just need to tie you up with my lasso.” Applejack grabbed her lasso and put it on Rainbow Dash. “Okay ponyville here we come,”

She picks the lasso up and directed Rainbow Dash to Ponyville, Leaving Sweet Apple Acres. When they arrived at Ponyville Rainbow Dash was surprised. Never before had she seen so many ponies. The first stop was a funny looking tree who would ever live inside it? Rainbow Dash wondered. Applejack knocked and a small purple and green dragon named Spike opened the door.

“Well hi there Applejack here to visit Twilight?”

“Yes Spike I have, is she home? I’m showing around a new mare and I would like to Twilight to meet her.” Spike looked behind and saw Rainbow Dash ears down as she was bored.

“Of course she is come inside I’ll go get her.”

While waiting for Twilight, Rainbow Dash looked around saw a menagerie of books.

“Hello there Applejack,” Twilight was a light purple unicorn with dark purple with light ink lines in her mane and tail. “What’s up?” She question.

Applejack pulled Rainbow Dash forward. “This is Rainbow Dash she is new here actually, just staying here till she recovers.”

Twilight looked at her. “Ummm she is feeling okay?”

“Not according to the Doc.” Applejack said.

“Oh ok well I'm Twilight Sparkle she said with a pleasing smile I suppose you’re Rainbow Dash?”

“Yes ma’am I am.”

“Well where do you live?”

Rainbow Dash ears folded down. “Well I live in Freedom Field.”

“Oh why you are you here?” Twilight asked.

Rainbow Dash sat on a chair and told them her story about what happen.

“So you were captured,” Twilight asked, Rainbow Dash nodded her head yes. “And you escaped there and Applejack’s family saw you near the stream?” Again Rainbow Dash nodded her head again. “Oh my I'm so sorry about that I’m sure you are okay being here we, are friendly and will take care of you.” Twilight said with a warm smile.

Applejack looked at the clock. “Well I guess we better go, I am going to take her to go see Fluttershy and our other friends.”

“Sounds like a plan to me, come by again Rainbow Dash,” Twilight said. “Nice meeting you.”

Applejack and Rainbow Dash left Twilight’s home and went to go see Fluttershy. At Flutter shy’s home you can hear birds and other animal sounds. They sounded hungry.

“I know I know little ones I'm trying the best I can.” Fluttershy said, speaking nervously and quietly.

“She never likes yelling at her animal friends.” First Fluttershy gave her bunny, Angel, a salad. Angel was a normal white, fluffy bunny and he always loved to be with Fluttershy. Fluttershy finished cooking food for her friends and while she was washing her hoof she heard a knock on the door. “I’ll be there in a moment.” She said shaking the water of her hooves and drying them off with her favorite towel she galloped to her door opened it and saw Applejack.

“Well hi there Applejack, did you stop by to visit the animals?”

“No Fluttershy I want you to meet someone.”

“Oh another creature?” Fluttershy said, hoping for another little critter. Applejack shook her head and she cleared the view of Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy remained silent.

“I know with a new pony you get shy Fluttershy but she is not mean come on say hi.”

Fluttershy had her shy look as she kept staring at Rainbow Dash who yawned and remained silent while looking bored at Fluttershy.

“I. I’m Fluttershy…” She said timidly, walked back a little.

“I'm Rainbow Dash she replied back to Fluttershy.

“Well it was nice meeting you but I got to go…..” Fluttershy quickly went inside and slammed the door.

“Sorry about that she gets shy easily,” Applejack apologized, “Now let's go meet Pinkie Pie.”

Can this be over with already? Rainbow Dash said in her mind.

Meanwhile in Mr. and Mrs. Cupcake’s house, Pinkie was in the kitchen.

“Ooooo where are the eggs???” She was making a super cool cupcakes for a filly that was a mare now, but without the eggs the cupcakes wouldn’t turn out well. The bell rang as Applejack walked inside.

“Howdy Pinkie what's whoa?!” Applejack ducked as a flour bag came flewing and hit Dash. “What in tarnation is going on?”

Pinkie pop up and stared at Applejack and the Pegasus. “Ekkkkkk ghost behind you!” Pinkie jumped in panic. Applejack looked behind her and laughed.

“Haha no Pinkie it’s not a ghost this Is Rainbow Dash.”

Dash had an angry look on her face. She was irritated wanted to get out of Ponyville as soon as she could, she couldn't because Applejack still had a lasso on her.

“Ohhhh hi there,” Pinkie waved smiling with a big, wide grin and she jumped happily to Rainbow Dash. “I’m Pinkie Pie welcome to my place!” Dash rolled her eyes and said.

“I'm Rainbow Dash,” She then turned to Applejack. “May we go no–” Before Rainbow Dash could say another word a cupcake was inserted into her mouth. She chewed it and swallows it. “Ok thanks for the cupcake its good, but I would like to go back to Sweet Apple Acres Applejack.” Dash said in a monotonous tone.

“Just one more stop and we will.”

“Argh fine, but this better be quick.” Dash turned around quickly pulled Applejack.

“Whoa, well I better go. Looks like Dash wants to leave. Applejack gives Dash a disdainful look, saying she wasn't happy with her.

Last stop was Rarity home inside she was working on some dresses to send to Canterlot for the Gala coming up. She heard a knock at her door.

“Coming!” She yelled as she trotted over to the door and opened it. “Why hello there Applejack darling, I’m sorry but I’m busy with dresses at the moment.” Before she could close the door Applejack put her hood in the doorway.

“Wait I have someone to show you,” She pulled Dash to Rarity. “This is Rainbow Dash.” Applejack said to Rarity. “Oh why is she covered with flour?” Rarity asked.

“Long story.” Applejack replied.

“Oh come on in you two and I’ll give her a good pamper.” Rainbow Dash froze not only did she not like the blacksmith bathe her, but she didn't feel comfortable having some pony she barely knew touching her.

“No thanks I can take care myself at the house I'm staying.”

Rarity grabbed the lasso and pull Dash to the bathroom. “Come darning don't want the water to get cold.”

Half an hour passed by Applejack sat waiting for Dash then she heard the door open and saw Rarity and Dash they trotted downstairs and Rainbow Dash looked like the beautiful mare she had always been. The flour in her mane had completely disappeared as her mane and tail were gorgeous.

“Sorry for the long wait Rainbow Dash here is a bit hard on following orders.” Rarity said. Dash wasn't in a great mood she wanted to get out of here as soon as possible. So Applejack said goodbye to Rarity took the lasso connected to Dash and they left to head back to Sweet Apple Acres.

The sun almost went down dinner was served closed to bed time she went to her room hopped on the bed and looked up at the moon. “What a long day I had.” Dash said in a sleepy voice she closed her eyes and fell asleep

Author note: My my it seems dash had an adventure in ponyville meeting other Applejack’s friends. Does Dash like them or not? Find out soon…

What he said. Stay in the fight, work on it. Trivia: George Patton was afflicted with undiagnosed dyslexia (go find a large library that has Carlo D'Este's Patton: A Genius for War and check it out). On a personal note, one of the smartest and toughest coppers I ever worked with couldn't write a grammatically-correct sentence at gunpoint (which is why I ended up doing our paperwork at End-Of-Watch), but he could sweet-talk folks out of going off without ever raising a hand to them (and put 'em on the ground and in cuffs without a scratch if they raised a hand to him!).

I don't want to sound mean, but do you have somebody you can trust that you can work with as an editor or a prereader? Somebody who can work with you on the spelling and grammar issues, and help you build this story? You've got something here, and it's got the potential to be a marvelous alternate-universe take on Dash, but right now, it's kind of hidden behind the spelling and grammatical issues, and the set-up needs to be fleshed out. A good editor can help you with that, if the two of you can trust each other.

(Oh - you may want to add the "Alternate Universe" tag, since Rainbow in your story grew up differently from the Rainbow in the show canon...)

But, whatever you decide to do... Keep after it - if you stumble, then at least make sure you stumble forwards, then catch your breath and take another step. You WILL win!
