Sledge115

Lunar connoisseur serving up slices of life. Ko-Fi page

T

For Stellar Wind, the job of being a navigator for a human ship is hardly a dream job when you're a visitor from another world.

The fact that his employers are a shady smuggler crew does little to ease his worry. No sooner than after the ship leaves London, Stellar finds himself stuck on a ship with a ragtag group with questionable ethics and motives, with immigrant civilians on one end and a team of human SAS operatives, raiding the ship, on the other end.

The discovery of stolen prototype weapons, designed to wipe out an army without ever touching them, complicates things, and tensions reach a breaking point when war breaks out, and the traitorous PER begin their attack.

But who is the person in the night, the man or stallion who converts? Is he friend, or is he foe? As far as Stellar Wind is concerned, fanatical ponies and traitorous humans are no friends of his.

Several crates of ponification potions, seven thousand rounds of ammunition, dozens of rifles and various small arms, four missiles, and three cannons.

A four-man-and-a-pony team, a smuggler crew of men and ponies, an Indonesian President, the Last King of Romania, a group of immigrants, a team of SAS operatives, a former Bureau Doctor, the PER and the Solar Empire.

"It's going to be a bloody holocaust"

The inclusion of this story to Knights of The Something Table 2 may say otherwise.

*shrug*
I liked it. I don't speak for anyone but me.

It was a pleasure to work on this thing with you. Rest assured, this will be referenced later

5308551 you mean the group that you founded? All that says is that you don't like it.

5308551 Right, says the guy who founded said group. Take you hate somewhere else.

5310194 All due respect, but firstly the existence of a group for "shit stories" is in questionable taste in itself - furthermore, your initial comment implied that being added to that group was some kind of objective judgement on the quality of this story (specifically, you said to my comment that it was "not bad" that being added to that group "may say otherwise", which implies a superior validity of the opinion of whomever added this story to that group over my own opinion), which I'm sorry to say it is not, as I believe the other commenters were also saying.

In the opinion of whomever added this story to that group - and I assume in yours since you've argued their case by even bringing up the addition in the first place - this story is poor. In mine and several others' opinions, it is not. I think we're all mature enough to recognise the validity of each others' opinion and leave it there.

Ya know, he wasn't the one that added it. He's telling the truth.

5311322 I don't disbelieve him. I was commenting on the fact that he seemed inclined to use this story's addition to that group as some kind of objective comment on the story's quality - my comment was "not bad", his was "the inclusion of this story to Knights of the Something Table 2 may say otherwise". I take issue with the very existence of such a group, and I definitely take issue with such a group being held as an objective barometer of quality.

In any case, this seems a rather pointless debate.

The point of the group is to find bad Fanfictions. Spinoffs that are overused count. If it's added, he's trying to say, then it most likely isn't good.

1: I think it is in pretty poor taste to have a group that exists solely to effectively point and laugh at fanfic. Which I said.

2: That group is not the barometer of "bad fanfic". There is no such thing. The entire thing is subjective. His point - which I attempted to refute - was that being added to that group may somehow disprove my comment that this story was "not bad". Being added to that group doesn't make this story any more or less "good" than it was because "good" is subjective, not objective.

3: I would also like to point out, though I'm sure you're aware, that "overused spinoffs" is also subjective. Personally, I think having a rich fanfic universe that inspires others to want to add to it is a beautiful thing, something a lot of fics could aspire to. We disagree. That's cool. But the entire thing is subjective.

Thinking this or any fanfic is either good or bad on a subjective level is just the game of writing fanfic. Thinking something is objectively bad, or worse having some group and claiming that as the barometer, is just nasty in my opinion, hence my strong reaction. I feel the need to apologise if I've been personally unpleasant in return, which was not my intention.

Anyway, Sledge115, a decent start, and a good read so far (in my opinon, mr gaurdians and friends). A little confusing if you aren't familiar with the Other Side of the Spectrum, but other than that (and maybe a few grammar/spelling mistakes, but alas, we're all human) good.

Will be looking forward to more, peace out.

I agree with the points you've made. I'm just explaining why he said what he said. But I hope to converse on more friendly terms, if not now, when we meet again.

This fanfic does a nice job exploring the time before the war seen in The Other Side of the Spectrum.

Stellar Wind works as a relateable 'everyman' character caught in a peculiar situation, and I appreciate you went the route of embracing the situation's crazy beyond the basic concept of pastel ponies attacking mankind. There's always been a strong over-the-top element to Spectrum, which seems well-captured here by throwing in the added mix of two real-world political figures, Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Not being a fan of Call of Duty, other than a soft spot for the original Modern Warfare and Black Ops (the franchise strikes me as taking itself too seriously for its implausible, jingoistic scenarios), I do feel a bit more conflicted over the plotline involving missing missiles, which I hope may yet lead into more fantastical story threads. There is also the long-standing hurdle of the fic being hard to understand if you're unfamiliar with the Spectrumverse, but that could be remedied via the inclusion of further official reports to provide context.

Overall, a strong debut for you. And despite my earlier talk of aiming for the absurd in Spectrum, this does have an odd, welcome hint of down-to-earthiness for this series, mostly thanks to Mycroft's hapless straightman act. I look forward not only to seeing more, but also to keep working with you in future.

Cheers,
~Vox

5536809 Glad you enjoyed it!

Some of the shout-outs are homages and parodies, like the random Cybermen mentioned. It's a ref to how the Doctor got introduced in Spectrum: out of nowherw.

The raid on the ship is basically Crew Expendable gone horribly wrong.

I'll.be switching POVs and return to a Conversion Bureau setting, for the first time in forever.

Again, thanks, and cheers!

Sad to see this cancelled. I liked it.

I'm _quite_ surprised anyone's left a comment here after so long :twilightoops:

But yeah - different times. I'd planned on continuing this / reboot it alongside the main story, got all the way to finishing up the first chapter's rewrite, but times have changed, and my focus in SPECTRUM have shifted to the main story and the other side stories (including an upcoming one), leaving this as a relic of the past.

In any case, I'm glad you liked it as it is
