Sequels2

T

This story is a sequel to Joy to the Worlds

Alaska is a safe place. This is what everyone at Fort Wainwright tells themselves. That they can wait out the Conversion War without so much as smelling ponification potion, right?

Maybe not. When two PHL, Johnny C "Nny" Heald (A writer and artist in the national guard) and Fiddlesticks Apple (a musician) take a plane to a PHL research facility on a favor for a friend, things get complicated fast.

A promising start! I like the avatar of Albion reference you put in there.

That final part its like ending of Resistance 2.

Well, this can be a bit hard to follow in places (there are a fair few conversations where I really didn't understand what was going on), but it seems interesting enough.

Will be interesting to see what the main characters make of the caribou, plus whatever's doing the killing sure is mysterious.

7119592 Glad I've done a good job at setting up some suspense! Thanks, man!
EDIT: As for why this switches viewpoint characters so often... I'll admit, it's hard for me too, and is kind of hell on conversations, but I could rest easier knowing that I was giving everyone spotlight, rather than just the one guy and struggling to fit everyone into a conversation. That would be easy at first, then it would just hurt.

It's not really that. That's handled pretty well and I was able to keep track of who's point of view I was taking with relative ease, but some of the conversation topics that came up seemed to require some inside knowledge to make sense of. One such case is Dr Bowman, I wasn't certain whether he was supposed to be a reference to something in the Dr Who universe, or whether he was a Spectrumverse exploration of a future Doctor Whooves, or something else entirely.

It could just be me -certainly in-jokes and in-discussions which would be common knowledge in universe make it seem more real- but from an outsiders perspective it can be somewhat mind boggling to figure out what they're talking about.

Asides from that however, the story has kicked off to a good start, maybe you'll elaborate on some of this in later chapters, I dunno, but I did have a bit of hard time with it.

7120669 Ah, okay. Dr. Bowman is the Doctor as portrayed by Jed, who is not the same Doctor as Dr. Whooves, and mayyyyyyy also be totally is the same Doctor from Jed's own fanfic, The Avatar Of Albion.

Was that... Was that a unicorn version of DJ?!? :pinkiegasp:

Correction Speculation: He is specifically the Doctor Hooves from Convergence, as that crossover lacks a Bowman on the Spectrum side, and the Reavers have been nearly wiped out. I am lacking Word of God on this, mind, but Occam's razor supports it.

I'm pretty sure Major Northwoods is female, but she's referred to as a male a lot of times which was confusing to me throughout the whole chapter.

If there was one side-story of Spectrum that could be recreated into an animated movie, or maybe even a video game, it would be this one. Honestly, I'm just biased from loving snowy locations, especially ones that feature an isolated city.

Also, I'll always love this scene; it effectively says "Dr. Salonen is nearby and there's actually a chance you'd get to meet him? Don't be silly, that wouldn't happen."

“With that out of the way,” Northwoods said, “There’s more facilities to see. I’m assuming you’re eager to see Salonen?”

“Very,” Henri said. “I was told I’d be of great importance to him.”

It was right then that a scrawny-looking zebra skidded - no, literally skidded - by, tripping over one hoof and falling in a heap in front of them.

Definitely a lot of new stuff injected into this to showcase what we'll see in the future from Spectrum. If I got the implications from Nny correctly his congresswoman took the potion? The way he referred to her as a mare despite having an obviously human name, and the way he remembered her made it seem so.

I used a word replacer thing - originally there was a male character there.

Honestly, most of the confusing parts here are due to, well... I panicked. There's a new chapter of the main Spectrum coming up that references Snowbound, and I didn't want to link to a version that wasn't canon anymore, so I immediately made a bunch of quick edits before the story was ready.

I'll get to those later today.

I made a large amount of last- minute edits! Hope you like them.

EDIT: Implying that my congresswoman was ponfiied was super unintentional, and I... well, I had no intention of doing that. That was meant to be Lyra. Also, I fixed a lot of things in the convo between Northwoods and Bowman.

But anyway, thanks! For the editing tips... And for the praise. :pinkiecrazy:

Been ages since I’ve read this. It does bring back a lot of nostalgia. Does this mean we will see re edited chapters of light despondent soon, or will you concentrate on snowbound first? Anyway as always thanks for the update!

Absomotherfuckinlutely. I've actually got four chapters of Light Despondent's re-edited version done - at Jed's behest, they'll be a new story. I've also got a new thing coming called The Slow Mutants! I'm really excited about it.

I'mma focus on Snowbound a bit first, for a few reasons - 1, it was severely underlooked on my part, 2, when Light gets going it'll be super hard for me to focus on anything else. 3, I really want to get to Slow Mutants and don't want Light Despondent to eclipse it.

I reread the scene and it's obvious that it was referring to Lyra, with her being mentioned right before Nny makes that comment about her. My bad!

Also, I meant to bring it up before, but the link to the song during the "Apple Grove" scene is broken.

So the reindeer show are in human form here? Interesting thanks for the update!

Oh sweet Epona, it took me how long to get through this chapter?!? :applejackconfused:

You think THAT'S bad, you should see the pace it takes me to write these chapters.

I keep brushing this thing off for some reason
