They got there too easy and guards absence is too convenient. It looks very much like another set-up for me...
Btw why the story has 'complete' status?

The writing is complete and the editing will be completed by the time I get around to posting it.
I wrote the whole thing in gdocs and every time I add a new chapter, gdocs messes up the formatting. So I spend about 20 minutes cleaning it up each time. Very irritating.

I suppose I can switch that to incomplete for about a week if that assuages anyone's conscience.

If Flitter, Cloudchaser and Silent Rivers were voiced, what would the sound like?

Thank you for the story !
Awesome characters and storyline :pinkiehappy:
Is there a chance that we meet Silent and Cloudchaser again in future stories ? :rainbowderp: The ending looks like start of series :twilightsheepish:

It's not the start of a series, but I wouldn't rule out seeing these two again at some point.

Generally, when I write a story, I think of it as being done when the story ends. Unless a sequel was planned from the beginning, I think sequels usually degrade the events of the first story and cheapen the characters. After all, if the hero went through a growth arc in the first story, how are they going to do it again in the second one? It's not impossible, but it requires a plan.

That said, there was a lot in this story that wound up getting cut, and I had other plans to tie this together with a longer-running metaplot. Our heroes may yet return as part of something bigger.

I was left with slight "not quite closed" feeling.
I think I was subconsciously expecting some kind of epilogue which would close questions left (there are a lot of these: How were Flitter and other victims doing after it, what happened to sons of Equestria organization, how did the princess take news about the case (I suppose Cloudchaser told her everything), how did these events affect Cloudchaser's life, did princess clear her and Silent from charges etc), such thing is quite frequent in detective genre - hence my reaction. I thought these questions were left unanswered deliberately to have easy start for the next story and the next case.
(BTW what are answers to these questions (if you have time to answer one or two) - I'm really curious? :twilightblush:)

Anyway, thank you for the story again! it was quite a ride
I will be really happy to meet them again when and if you have inspiration for it

Just a friendly heads up for any new readers whose eyes hit the comments section.

I'll answer the questions in a PM when I'm less busy than I usually am.

oops! :twilightblush:
edited my message and hid questions under white font.

Brought here by Paul's review. The lack of a proper denouement is a bit disappointing, given all the unanswered questions, but it was still a compelling story.

Like others, I came here thanks to a review, and I'm glad I did.

Now, as to the idea of a series or sequel, the formula here lends itself well to that. Silent River did say that 'chaser is an advisor, and she has others, so that opens the door to any number of stories showing the adventures of Silent River, and introducing new advisors or revisiting existing ones. I think the only real limit really is your imagination, and I for one would like to see what you come up with.

I'm digging these noir vibes you're laying down.

Oh boy, things are really goin now. I love how Silent just yeet Chase through the window as an escape plan, and how it seems that the duo are just a couple steps ahead of everyone but the big bad. Good read so far.

Woof, it's really ramping up! Thought Chase was gonna pull a CptMarvel and deck the elder, also *of course* Silent bodied some dudes before.

And now Mess is here! Oh boy...

F for Lilac and Silent's moral compass.

Also "stallion from trottingham"

Oh no.
:twilightoops:

There are aspects of this that remind me of season 1 of Jessica Jones. Silent as the distant, unempathetic PI. Messerschmitt with the ability to control ponies. They're not totally comparable (Jessica Jones is a seriously damaged character who comes with enough emotional baggage to fill a shipping container, while Silent Rivers seems more defective than damaged. Kilgrave's powers are intrinsically his, while Messerschmitt's power seems to come from those gems and may have something to do with a blunt knife from an old folktale. And while the story of Jessica Jones is about surviving and overcoming abuse, Messerschmitt has been building some sort of chauvinism cult.), but there are some parallels.

Teeddy deserved that. Also good thinking on Cloudchaser's part.
