Face Your Fears, Spike

It was a peaceful night in Ponyville. The luminous moon and stars lite up the dark blue sky. Every mare, colt, foal, and filly were fast asleep in their beds, dreaming sweet dreams. Well, except for one dragon. Deep inside the friendship castle, Spike tossed and tuned restlessly in his small bed. Mumbling soon followed and he began to clutch his blanket tightly, repeating the same word over and over again.

"No, no! Please! No, no!" He mumbled. Driblets of sweat began streaking down his face as he shut his eyes tighter

"Twilight Please! I'll do anything! Please don't send me away! No, NO!!!" He screamed, finally jolting himself awake.

He took a couple of deep breaths, trying to calm himself. But after what he just experienced, he was on the verge of tears. It all just seemed so real. The anger and coldness in Twilights eyes when she yelled and him to get out. The heart-aching pain that he felt soar through his body as she screamed at him. He finally closed his eyes and fell back into the bed, hoping that this dream that he was about to have will distract him from this never-ending nightmare. ............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ Celestias bright sun soon burst through Spikes room, bringing everything to light, announcing a brand new day. Spike simply groaned and shoved his pillow into his face, trying to get back from his gemstone land with his beloved wife, Rarity. A rooster from far off scawked loudly, destroying his perfect dream. His sat up and groaned as he wiped the sleep out of his eyes.

"I swear once I get my hands on that rooster I'm gonna-" He cut himself short when he glanced over at the time.

"OH NO!!!!! I slept in!!!!" He cried out. In a blink of an eye, he was zooming down the stairs and into the library, already begging for forgiveness.

"Oh my goodness Twilight I am so sorry I slept in!!! I'll work extra hard on the chores and I'll even make you your favorite breakfast!! Just please don't send me away Twilight! Please!!" He stopped begging once he heard Twilight chuckling.

"Spike, don't you remember what I told you last night? I said you could sleep in because the girls and I are going out for the day. And you already did the chores last night!!" The events of last night came rushing back to him and he began to chuckle, his cheeks brightening.

"Heh heh, right. I guess I forgot about that." He said softly. Twilight turned back to her books before a confused look spread across her face.

"What did you say about sending you away?" Spike jumped once he realized and smiled foolishly.

"Its nothing! Just my imagination getting the better of me." Twilight only shrugged and place her books back on the shelf before heading out the door.

"Alright well, I'm off. Just try not to sleep all day Spike! Ok?!" She called over her shoulders before leaving the castle.

"Don't worry, I have no intention of doing that." He mumbled to himself, wondering what he could do to pass time instead of sleeping.
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................
"...Spike...Spike!" Spike jumped about 10 feet in the air when a voice boomed over him. After recovering, he turned around to see Twilight standing over him with a angry look on her face

"What did I tell you about not sleeping all day!!!!! Do you know what you've just done?!?!" She screamed at him. He suddenly became confused, not understanding what he just did.

"I'm sorry Twilight, but I don't know what I just did. I don't even remember how I fell asleep!!" He explained. Twilight only growled and stomped away. Spike looked confused for a moment before following her down the hallway. She suddenly stopped and took a deep breath before turning around to face him

"Spike, I've been thinking for a while now and I've just now decided that I...well...don't really need you anymore" His heart immediately dropped to his stomach and his breath became short.

"But Twilight, I don't understand. Why do you not need me anymore?" He stuttered out.

"Spike, now that I have become more advanced in magic, I really don't need you to help me out along with organizing or writing letters. Plus, Owlowiscious can send the letters much faster than you can and never slacks off during his chores. You are no use to me now Spike. I ask so little of you and you do nothing!" She explained. He was to shocked to even speak. His worst fears were coming true!! He had to stop this!! He immediately launched himself and curled up against Twilights front legs, begging.

"Please Twilight, don't make me go!! I promise I'll do better!!! Please!!!" Twilight aggressively shoved him off he legs and slapped him.

"Why are begging now?! I thought you wanted to go!! So now's your chance!! Go on and join your little dragon friends in the migration! You don't belong here Spike!! You're nothing to me, to Ponyville!!! She yelled at him and slammed the door in his face, leaving him tear stricken. He curled up into a ball o the cold floor and let out all the tears he had, feeling his heart shatter in his chest. After what seemed like forever, he heard hoofsteps coming towards him. He held his breath, waiting for yelling, hitting, anything, but got nothing except for a gentle hoof stroking his scales. He looked up to see-

"Princess Luna? What are you doing here?" He asked, surprised.

"Your dreams have been troubling you quite a lot lately and I came in to check on you." She said in a gentle tone that made him launch himself into her arms, a new wave of tears flooding down his cheeks.

"Oh Princess Luna, Its just awful!! Twilight told me that she didn't need me anymore!! That I meant nothing to her or Ponyville!!"

"Spike, you're dreams are haunting you to the point that it seems real." Spike stopped short and looked up into Luna's eyes.

"You mean...this is all just a dream?" He questioned. At her nod, relief flooded through him and he sighed.

"Princess Luna, I don't want this to keep haunting me. What should I do?" Luna leaned down and nuzzled him affectionately before whispering into his ear,

"Tell her the truth."
.........................................................................................................................................................................................................................
"Spike?" Spike woke up to Twilight glancimg at him with a worried look on her face. "Are you alright? You've been sleeping quite a lot lately." He was about to say that he was fine but remembered Luna's words and gave in

"Remember back at the Crystal Empire, when I told you that my worst fear was you sending me away? Ever since we've gotten back, I keep getting nightmares about you actually doing that, saying that I'm nothing to you." He admitted while looking down to the ground. He was suddenly caught off-guard when her leg wrapped around him and pulled him closer.

"And like I said before, a fear that will never come to pass. I'm never gonna send you away. You're everything to me Spike. I don't know what I'd do without you. I love you to much to let you go." She said in the most caring and loving voice he had ever heard. He wrapped his arms tightly around her body as a few tears rolled down his face.

"I love you too, Twilight.

That night, when the luminous moon and bright stars filled the night sky, the little dragon fell asleep next to his master, dreaming the best dream he's ever had.

Yeah, that was the ONE problem with this otherwise great one-shot story.

5011434 I now realize what I did. Should I change it to mother or would that be weirder?

5011464 How about sister?

Depending on which camp you're in. Personally, I'm in the mother/son camp, but I would build it up more in the story before saying something like that, even if you go with sister/brother. Unless you plan to add more to it, I would go with "dearest friend," or something similar.

5011510 I'm not planning to add anymore so I might just change it to sister

5011996 A beautiful story but in my opinion it might be best to change 'master' to something that most people can agree on such as 'lifelong friend' but as the writer it mostly depends on your view. Anyways thank you for the short but sweet tale.

A good story, but I think "Anxiety" did it better. No offense. It's just that both stories are so similar that it's hard not to make a comparison.

Couple errors here and there could use a little cleaning, but other than that you did a pretty good job on this. The pacing... could use a tiny bit of work, but it's a oneshot, so I understand. You could've described a few things in more detail and that would've made it longer and better pacing, but knowing me, your pacing could be good and I will be like "GO SLOWER!!!", but if you think it's cool, then that's cool. Another thing is well, let's just say if you need an editor, I'm here. You can always ask me for help.

Nice little story! I enjoyed it and I hope to see more from you!:pinkiehappy:

Yeah, pacing needs improvements as well as depth and description. It's just so short....

Like the Good guy said A little hamburger helper.:pinkiehappy:It's got good bones now add some meat:twilightblush::raritywink::ajbemused::yay:

This is kind of short to fulfill what you wanted to do with the premise.
