Shovel Knight is on his travels around the kingdom, edging closer and closer towards his goal - The Tower of Fate, and the Enchantress within. But his work is interrupted by none other than his dark doppelganger, Black Knight, still determined to stand in his way.
As they do battle, Black Knight's magic lands a hit on Shovel Knight, sending him down for the count.
In time, he comes to his senses, on foreign, unknown soil, his will unbroken, determined to find the Tower and put an end to the terror brought upon the land by the Order of No Quarter.
If he can find where to start looking.

Glad you all like it. As I said in the notes (at least I think I did), I'm unsure where to go with this, but I liked the game's ending too much to actively want this to end differently. Think of it as a side story derived from the game's story.
If you've not beaten it, don't worry, I'll leave the full closure of the story for an optional epilogue - you'll get the gist of the story without it, there'll be no major plot points in it.

A "surger"? You mean a descendant? Not only can I not see a way for that to work out in the story, I'd much rather it still be him, anyway.

Eh, like I said, this is little more than a branch in the game's story, thus the Shovel Knight that is beaten by Black Knight and the one that [story spoilers] in the end are the same Shovel Knight.
Not to mention the fact that he's human, and so his armour and whatnot wouldn't fit a pony.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean by "only one time in history that use a shovel is the mock", but Shovel Knight is a fictional work, not really heavily tied to real world events, and the only other person in this armed with a shovel is Black Knight.
