I'm guessing Spike doesn't like oranges and Twilight's only love is for books that will slowly fade out over time. She basically doesn't have any time to take care of him, since it's more like the other way around and I find it sad.

“Like what?” Twilight asked.

Ding ding. A bell tinkled from the kitchen.

“My food is done.” The mage said tossing Twilight an apple.

Oh god that was funny. she didn't notice he turned it into a apple.

“You did it,” Twilight said in awe staring at the bite mark on the apple. “You actually transformed it into a completely different fruit! That’s amazing!"

Can't help but wonder why Twilight is so impressed by this. She's done actual transfiguration herself as far back as season 1.
