The Pony that wanted to Fly

The Story

There was once an earth pony that had no wings but wanted to fly. She travelled to Canterlot, where Princess Celestia lived. She ruled over all of Equestria, surely she could help her little pony. She asked Princess Celestia for wings and Princess Celestia said, “For your wish to come true you must use the Power of Friendship.”

So the earth pony went to the smart unicorn in the library. She asked the librarian about the Power of Friendship. The librarian replied, “If you’re trying to use the Power of Friendship, might I suggest the Orb of Friendship?”

So the earth pony set out to find the Magical Orb of Friendship. A flawless Pearl of Friendship. Nopony knew what it could do, but legends told that it would grant the user of the orb many friends.

The earth pony had asked around all of Equestria, searching for the orb. She searched lowest mountains, the not so deep valleys and every salty saloon. The earth pony wasn’t a very good climber so she couldn’t search the tallest mountains or the deepest caverns or valleys. But the pony had no luck, and had been searching for what felt like forever!

When she had just about lost hope; she cried out, "OH WHY CAN'T THE ANSWER JUST FALL FROM THE SKY?!"

And lo and behold the moment she looked up something had run into her, or rather FLEW into her!

This something and she went tumbling into the bushes. When the wingless pony got her senses she saw that this something had wings. And that the wings were attached to a pony, it was a pegasus!

The wingless pony asked, "Are you alright? You fell from the sky!"

The pegasus shook her head to shake away the dizziness and answered, “I think so, are you alright? I crashed into you."

The pony answered, "I'm alright, but why did you fall from the sky?"

The pegasus replied, "Heh, well I'm not the best flyer. Actually possibly the worst flyer ever I actually prefer to run over flying."

"I was practicing my flying to see if I could improve my skills since I have had no luck finding the orb of friendship to lose these wings and run with the creatures of the land."

The earth pony was surprised! A pegasus that didn't want her wings and was looking for the orb as well!

The earth pony said, "You are looking for the orb as well? So am I! I am looking for it because I want to fly with the birds and clouds in the sky."

So the pegasus and the pony set off together to search for the orb.

Since they were together they were able to search in places neither had been able to search before. They were able to search the land better with two sets of eyes and they also helped each other out when the other wasn't feeling well or when the other too tired to go on.

And then after searching for a fortnight they finally found it, the keep that housed the pearl of friendship! They were very very excited. They rushed through the keep looking for the orb. They searched every bed room, every sitting room, all the rooms but none contained the pearl.

Just as their hopes were about to fall beyond rescue; they found a secret door that led to another part of the keep.

They opened the secret door and rushed onward to the unexplored part of the tower, stairs that went all the way to the very tippy top of the tower. When they finally reached the top of the tower they saw the pearl. The Pearl of Friendship sat on a pedestal in the middle of the room. But there was someone else with the pearl as well.

“Who dares approach the great and powerful Nightmare Moon?! We wish to be alone, leave us!”

It was Nightmare Moon! The legendary pony that wanted her friends to be the only friends in the world; and for everypony else to admire their friendship. Her friends and her sister, Princess Celestia, didn't have these ideals though. So to stop her they had to imprison her in the keep until she had changed her ways. However during her imprisonment, Nightmare in a fit of rage imprisoned her feelings of kindness and friendliness into an orb.

But despite this turn of events the pegasus and pony were not deterred. They had come too far for too long to just give up.

“Indeed we can little pony. We are the best flier ever. We can fly faster than the Wonderbolts and higher than any bird or pegasus has ever flown.” Nightmare Moon replied haughtily.

“And what about your horn? It is so large, can you cast very powerful spells?”

“Our horn is the most great and powerful in all of Equestria! We can cast spells that not even Starswirl the bearded could have considered casting.”

So the earth pony continued to ask Nightmare Moon such questions to keep her distracted. Since she had sealed her friendliness away, she had no humbleness and it was easy to get her talking about how great she was and how powerful she was. So while this was happening the earth pony kept Nightmare distracted and the pegasus attempted to snatch the pearl.

Unfortunately the pegasus tripped over the pedestal as she reached for the orb and caused it to shatter!

“NOOOOO! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” screamed Nightmare Moon.

There was a bright light as the magic of the pearl was washed all around them. Then the magic all started flowing towards one-point, Nightmare Moon. The magic enveloped her in a cocoon. And it shrunk smaller and smaller until only a pony all curled up would be able to fit inside. Then.............POP went the magical bubble and gone was Nightmare Moon and in her place was Princess Luna!

She spoke to the pegasus and pony with a very gentle and friendly voice, "Thank you my little ponies. You have freed me from Nightmare Moon's Ideals. As a show of friendship what can I do for you?"

They answered with their wishes; for one to be able to fly with the birds and the other to run with the herds on the ground.

Luna answered, “Very well.” and granted their wishes. She took the wings of the pegasus and gave them to the earth pony.

She also added "It was through your power of friendship that you were able to free us. Do not lose such a strong bond. However, if we may be so bold to ask…may we join thee and become thy friend? We’ve been so lonely up in this keep, we wish to see the world and make new friends too.”

And so Princess Luna, the earth pony with wings, and the pegasus with no wings ran and flew off to find more adventures and have fun!

As I said before this is my first story and it was made years ago while I was tired and telling a story to my friend because she asked for one before bed time. Be honest in what you think of it and tell me why you liked it or disliked it and what it was about it you did or didn't like. I'm honestly not much of a writer in my opinion but I enjoy the occasional flair of the pen so to say.

I removed a lot of the exclamation points. There were a lot like you guys said thanks for pointing that out! I also edited it a bit more and added a few bits of detail and dialogue. Tell me what you think now! :)

It was... simple. Yeah. So nothing bad with it, really.

Too many exclamation marks is probably my biggest issue with this. Yes, it's supposed to be a sort of upbeat bedtime story type story, but this is... ridiculous. Exclamation points make up more than half of the sentence ending punctuation here.

Also, as a tip, there's an option for linking cover image source in the story editor.

And then it was really really broken up like every 2 sentences most of the time. But I'll probably go back and edit it a bit later xD Right now it's 1 AM so I need to sleep! I haven't read anything yet, but... why is it that it's Rainbow on the cover who does not want wings? She loves her wings. She needs them to fly. How would she get into the Wonderbolts without being a pegasus? Depicting Fluttershy or Twilight as an alicorn on the cover might make more sense.

And maybe you're just looking at the picture in a different light than I did! Maybe it's RD who's been the earth pony and AJ is the one who wants to lose her wings! But honestly, to quote "Bridle Gossip" Don't judge a book by it's cover.

There are too many exclamation points in this story! It's kinda making my face hurt! No real problems besides that, except for the fact that it's pretty rushed! But judging by the fact that you made this story a long time ago, I wouldn't blame you if you don't want to edit it!

4479988 Thansk! I'm honestly probably going to continue to edit it for a while! Though there are a few things I'm unsure of going forward. Like should I name the earth pony and pegasus? Or keep referring to them as just ponies so the reader can fill in what they're like with their own mind? Ah well that's a bridge to be crossed later and to contemplate until insanity sets in
