gilded (adj): having a pleasing or showy appearance that conceals something of little worth

Sick in bed with nothing better to do, Shining Armor meditates on the parts of himself that the public doesn't know. When a weakness from the past threatens to manifest itself, Shining begins to fall into despair, wondering if he is truly the figure that Twilight and Cadance see him as. But, even in the wake of illness, there shall always be hope...

Most of these stories on FiMFiction are 'self-inserts' in that we all draw from personal experience to write these stories.

And I appreciate you placing some of you into this story to share with us. Seeing Shining as a somewhat inhibited instead of this paragon of perfection is refreshing (if you already don't count Changeling magic and Sombra's magic, the black crystals on his horn). Thank you for this.

Thanks. To be quite honest, I drew a lot from the way I've been feeling towards my life. The feelings of brokenness and having to keep up a facade are, unfortunately, very real for me. I do, in fact, often compare myself to others, so writing this was pretty cathartic. I know I would have liked to have read a story like this in those times, so that's why I did so. (Thankfully, I'm an only child, so I've never had to go through the sibling thing, but it seemed like a pretty logical conclusion to jump to.)

It isn't so much of a split personality as it is a psychological repression. To sum it up basically, literally the day I started working on this, "Let it Go" was playing on the radio. That made me realize that this could actually be a male, Shining version of this.

...okay, now I'm thinking of Shining singing it with changed lyrics, and I'm cracking up right now. :rainbowlaugh:

Come to think of it, Shining never did get a song in during his wedding, did he? How odd. (Though one may not quite feel like singing in his condition, but still!)

Just realized that I ended up submitting this story THE LITERAL DAY BEFORE Shining and Cadance's two-year anniversary. *commemorative story that isn't really a commemorative story coincidence epic win*
