If there's one thing that Pinkie Pie loved more than anything, it was sugar. She ate it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, as a midnight snack, dessert again, another dessert, another dessert again, and desert. She would eat it anywhere as well. In the park, in her home, in bed, at funerals, at sporting events, and at important events that would decide the fate of Equestria.
It didn't matter; she ate sugar almost every second of her life.
She was as likable as much as she was hated. Her dentist absolutely hated her, for every checkup that she went to, she would spot about sixteen cavities in her teeth. It didn't matter how many times the dentist recommended that Pinkie Pie brush her teeth three times a day; Pinkie Pie just simply didn't listen.
Her health hasn't been that great either. Most would assume that the excessive amounts of sweets that she ate daily would make her dangerously overweight, but either Pinkie Pie had an excellent metabolism, or she exercised every other day. She hadn't gained any weight.
At all.
Not too many people minded Pinkie Pie with her eating habits, because that was just the way she was. However, there was one day where all of that changed in an instant.
Ponyville never had a convenience store before, but one finally opened in the market square. The business was especially popular with teenage foals, as they carried the one thing that was becoming more and more common in teenagers diets.
Energy drinks.
Energy drinks were a new kind of refreshment that gave them the one thing that they needed; energy. The reasons the teenagers usually gave for drinking them was that school was becoming increasingly more stressful, so they decided to drink these for more energy on their schoolwork. It wasn't just teenagers who were drinking them, however. Sports athletes sponsored the drinks, and as a result more and more ponies were buying the drinks.
It was only a matter of time before Pinkie Pie knew about these drinks. On her break from a shift at the Sugarcube Corner Pinkie Pie wandered through the marketplace, which was especially busy, and found herself inside the convenience store. The store carried many things like potato chips, chocolate, soda, bathroom supplies, and at the other end of the store, Monster Energy Drink.
Pinkie Pie wandered through the store until she passed through the section of energy drinks. She immediately stopped and trotted backwards to face the aisle. She took a long glance and 'oohed' at it. The many varieties that was stocked in the fridge caught her eye, and it almost seemed like it was sensory overload with all of the different colours. It was also worth to note that were in tall cans rather than regular soda cans.
Without thinking, she opened the fridge and grabbed one. She went over to the counter, the countercolt reading a newspaper, and slammed the can on the counter. The countercolt glanced up from his newspaper and scanned the drink with his scanner.
"That'll be four bits, ma'am," the colt said with a dry voice. Immediately, Pinkie Pie was surprised at the price of the drink. But then again, it was in a tall can so maybe she had to pay a premium for it. She grabbed five bits seemingly out of nowhere and slapped it down on the counter.
"Here you go! Keep the change!" Pinkie Pie said gleefully as she hopped out of the store.
Outside, she opened the can up and took a first sip.
It was at this time that Pinkie Pie changed into a completely different pony.
Her eyes bulged out and was two feet away from her face. The fizzy taste traveled down her throat, causing a storm of citrus taste down Pinkie's stomach. Immediately, the fizz made it's way into the bloodstream and traveled to the brain. Every single sense was boosted by the drink. Her ears picked up every sound in the market, creating a stream of information. Her brain processed the information, giving off painful pulses.
But to Pinkie, it was all a blur.

What transpired at Ponyville has created one of the biggest disasters since Discord's return. Many were not ready to share the tale, but a few were willing to tell their story. The few who agreed to interviews for the Canterlot Daily newspaper all had at least one minor injury. Others were not so lucky.
"I was just walking down the market, paying for some apples, when suddenly I heard this odd sound," One bystander spoke. He was one of many to have been diagnosed with blindness, and he suffered from scorching third degree burns.
"It sounded like chattering, but I wasn't sure what. So I looked over my shoulder to see what was up."
The sight was not ideal.
It is almost impossible to find what the actual account was, as nopony remembered most of the details entailing of the event. However, most told interviewers that after a couple seconds later there was a piercing high noise, followed by a high energy burst of light. Those who were about 50 yards from the impending explosion was scorched away, leaving hot lumps of dust on the ground.
Investigators recently revealed the reason for the explosion. According to the investigators, the explosion was set off by a mare who had consumed Monster Energy Drink. It's high caffeine content triggered a nerve in the brain, causing all of her senses to be boosted by the surge of energy.
The name of this mare is Pinkie Pie, also known as the Element of Laughter. Previously, Pinkie Pie has been known to consume large quantities of sugar on a regular basis, which lead to her being consistently hyperactive. According to investigators, the Monster was too much for the mare to handle, causing her to literally explode.
The amount of injuries has totaled up to almost 1,500 ponies in the market, and almost 200 are missing. Ponyville hospital is taking an overwhelming amount of patients in, with no end of the line in sight.
Pinkie Pie herself has amazingly survived, but is now in critical condition. She will fully heal, but it will take about a year for her to get back to her former self.

4266023 I think the actual explosion is more of a magical discharge. The discharge was sent outward. Pinkie wasn't effected by the discharge itself but all that energy leaving her at once severly injured her.
