Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if it was, several times over.
It's not exactly mainstream lore, but a Kururi is a type of spirit- a fey if you would, that lives in or around pumpkins. In return for a well-kept field and offerings of sweetened goats' milk, they protect the crop from pests and disease. They're also said to whisper madness into the ears of men who walk through their fields at night.
They're absolutely delightful little buggers, in my opinion.
