I need to talk to someone who has a pretty good understanding of Police investigative procedure and who doesn't mind getting a spoiler. So I'm a few thousand words in to the next chapter and I decided to try something: in-progress notes within the chapter to help keep me on track for what's happening next. The idea is to sketch out what I'm going to do before writing all the details and then either incorporate/delete the notes as I reach them.
