Ah yes, the gunblade is indeed a real thing. And while it's real life inspiration isn't like Squall's revolver gunblade or Siefer's Hyperion gunblade. I do wonder if either one from Final Fantasy 8 could be made into real functional weapons.

That has actually been done, search "Man at Arms" on Youtube, they've done Squall's Revolver at least. Along with Cloud's Buster Sword, Sephiroth's Masamune and Auron's Katana.
