"No, no, no, the return of Nightmare Moon was 'bad'. The thousand-year absence of the Crystal Empire was 'bad'. This was an absolute nightmare." - Silver Spoon, describing her cello lesson

The Most Unlikely Places by KiroTalon

It's Monday, and I'd like to feature a story every week, so here's one I came across today which I've really enjoyed.

It's several years in the future, and all the foals are now teenagers in their final year of school. Silver Spoon, however, has not done so well these past few years. Despite all her efforts, she's just not very good at anything. Her grades are always embarrassingly low, and she'll be lucky if she manages to graduate. She hates socialising, and her only friend after all these years is still Diamond Tiara.

And then there's Scootaloo: a brash, arrogant genius who could pass everything without even trying, but doesn't bother applying herself. And she hates Silver Spoon.

So Cheerilee does the best thing she can think of: force them to work together in the hope that they can help each other.

It's an old, classic plot, but this is done SO well. There's so much detail in the characters - ALL the characters, not just the protagonists - that this sucked me in and wouldn't let go. It's perfect slice-of-life writing: we get to follow the characters as they face problems in their daily lives, we see their homes, their families (Scootaloo's family in particular comes as quite a surprise), and we feel their pains and joys.

Diamond Tiara fans will be pleased to note that DT's character does not get assassinated in this story - in fact, she probably comes off the best out of all of them.

Supposedly this story is going to be a romance, but that hasn't happened yet - in fact there's not even a hint of it, which is good, as it means the author isn't trying to force it into the story. I'd recommend this story to everyone, not just Spoon and Scootaloo fans, as it's a wonderful read.

Yes, that was a great fanfic, and it's worth mentioning that Scootaloo's family only comes as a surprise if you haven't read No Longer Lost, which this is an indirect sequel to.

That was all about Scootaloo's current family and how she ended up there. And it was actually really good as well.

I forgot about that! I'll have to read that now. ^^
