A relationship is not always so easy to define, especially when the ponies involved are drawn in different directions. Yet it turns out that sometimes the answer to your problems really do lie in books. Even if you have to write them yourself.

Faced with the implications and changes brought about by Twilight's coronation, Rarity must contend with what it might mean for their relationship. A relationship, you see, that lives and dies by the dozens of books quietly stashed away in the back of her closet. 

One day, she hopes, she'll be able to give them back.

Twilight finds out that Rarity was nervous about asking her out.

Surprisingly, this is quite upsetting information.

In a dimly lit tavern, Rarity tells Twilight a tale of loss, heartbreak, and how you haven't lived life until you've sobbed in a bar.

The other Rarity in Twilight's life isn't quite sure how she feels about any of this.

Meeting up with Rarity at a coffee shop, Twilight was all ready to cram for finals. She thought it would be a brilliant and nice idea to study together. Of course, it would probably have been better if Rarity wasn't her girlfriend and wasn't more interested in studying Twilight rather than flash cards.

Twilight wasn't one to sit alone in bars and stare at an empty glass. On the one rare occasion she found herself in that position, however, she thought to herself that though breaking up with somepony hurt, it was far worse when it didn't hurt at all.

In a world of snakes and ladders, Rarity has had to learn a single, simple fact:

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single mare who desires recognition and success must, without a doubt, be a social-climbing bitch.
