After years of being under the Nightmare Forces' control, Rarity is just now struggling to pick up the pieces and to figure out just how much she has really done. With only shreds of her memories of Nightmarity remaining, coming to terms with her darkest self will be hard enough. But when somepony from her time under the nightmare returns, Rarity must decide for herself whether this past is one that deserves to be completely buried.

Rarity Writes is a monthly article featured in the Hooves and Hemlines magazine, and Rarity couldn't be prouder. After all, if there was one thing she could talk about, it was fashion, right? And free publicity is always great.

Unfortunately, it didn't take long for her to run out of ideas. Luckily for her, she finds some interesting subject material in her best friend's relationship.

This is not the story of how the Dragon Empire fell. This is the story of why it happened.

Part of the Borderworld.

It was supposed to be easy. A simple ambush. Jump a flanking force of Sombra's before they reach the battlefield. Rainbow Dash and the rest of the Wonderbolts had done it a thousand times before. She could do it in her sleep.

But then things go south for Dash, and she's taken behind enemy lines. Everypony knows her fate: to be brainwashed into serving Sombra. But what seems to be hopeless may just reveal more about Dash than she knows about herself.

Mountains are a terrifying obstacle for soldiers. Two weeks in, and the party is lost with far few supplies to keep them for much longer.

This is the point of view of Gyle, one of the less-experienced soldiers in the group, as a single evening explores the choices that have to be made to survive.

During her time-twisting battle with Starlight Glimmer, Twilight finds herself in an Equestria ruled by a tyrant alicorn that calls herself the Queen of Equestria. In this world, Twilight's friends are gone and beyond her aid, and Equestria's citizens live in fear of their ruler's wrath should they anger her.

But no one has ever seen the pony who suffers the most in this world.

After what Sunset had done she never expected anyone to forgive her, but there was always someone willing to give her a second chance and accept her for what she was. Even before Twilight's friends bothered with her, there was one girl who Sunset could always rely on to be there.

The most recent Friendship Games have just finished, with Crystal Prep's star academic Twilight Sparkle nearly ending the world. Abacus Cinch doesn't care about that; she merely wants Canterlot High School to forfeit the Games, claiming that the use of magic is cheating. Before anything else can be said, a new arrival appears, and Abacus Cinch gets a rude awakening.

Sweetie Belle wakes up. Sweetie Belle takes a shower. Sweetie Belle tries to make breakfast.

Nothing feels the same to her anymore.
