This story is a sequel to I Wrote This at the End of 2017 Because I No Longer Care
Sunset Shimmer visits Equestria.
All good things must come to an end. That is a simple fact of life, however tragic. And now one story is ending, though the participants will never be forgotten.
But while one story must end, another shall begin. This is something Twilight Sparkle will discover for herself... at the close.

It is a tale well known to all: Twilight Sparkle, immortal alicorn, forced to face the world without her friends. Time having separated them, never to meet again, leaving only one Princess all alone, the last to remember those happy times. Alone in her castle, mourning all she has lost.
...too bad certain ponies have no sense of the dramatic and are too inconsiderate to actually be dead.
It's another normal day in Other-Questria, and the Human Seven are heading to school... except for Sunset, who's still asleep it seems.
Being the closest to her, Twilight sets out to wake her up.
It's the middle of the night. Maybe. Since Sunset Shimmer uses light-blocking curtains and has no bedside clock, it could be noon for all she cares. Still, the buzzing of her transdimensional diary wakes her up. It's Twilight Sparkle, panicking about venturing outside her comfort zone. Sunset does her best to calm her friend down.
The whole school saw Sunset Shimmer's demonic form get hit by the Elements of Harmony, and half a second later she was in a smoking crater in the ground, sobbing and repentant. From Sunset's perspective, her change of heart took a bit more time.
Genre is... not well-suited but to be perfectly honest that's the closest it's gonna get. Think of it as a missing scene.

Many thanks to the folks on the Fimfiction and Clocktower Discord servers for their editing help; any remaining errors are my own.

What's a tontine? It's a new kind of investment. You buy non-refundable shares in a common pot and collect the interest for the rest of your life. In fact, tontines are all about living -- and that's why the creator feels it's an idea which can't possibly fail.
There's just one minor flaw...
