    Hiya, lovely peeps!

Welcome to Behind-the-page, the series where I give you background information on my newest release. On today’s spotlight, we have: Relapse!

So, first story on the year on the tail end of April. Suppose I’m going to be a little slow on stories this year as compared to last year. But no matter.

The Absolute Best of Heartstrings - Shelf 1

    Hiya, lovely peeps!

I love the written word. I love books and fanficiton and blogs; I just love reading in general. When I first picked up reading in 2016, I expected stories to be just that - stories. There’s a plot, characters do this and that, reach climax and end plot. I didn’t know that ‘themes’ and ‘depth’ and ‘feels’ were ever in those stories.

I’ve never been glad to more wrong.

    Happy New Year, lovely peeps!

    (A month late, but whatever.)

Six months ago, I made a blog recapping everything I’ve done for the first half of 2023. And since the new year has come, it’s time for the recap of the latter half of the year.

It’s time for an update (more than one, actually) · 7:26pm Sep 30th, 2022

Hiya, lovely peeps!

How have ya’ll been? It has been a while since I’ve been really active here on the site. As such, I figured it is time to update you all on where I currently stand, site-wise. There are a lot of news, so let’s enumerate them.

News #1: An Updated Library

You’ll remember that a while back, I made this blog, detailing the current state of my bookshelves. There have been a few changes since. First off, all my ‘Favorite [Insert Genre Here]’ shelves have been renamed to ‘Best of [Insert Genre Here]’. In addition, I have opened a second shelf for [Comedy]. The first one was getting really full, so I decided to cap it at 100 and open a second one. Relating to this, I have created a general rule for my library: no shelf is to have more than 100. ’Later’ has been made private since I don’t want writers to get a notification everytime I book something for later, ’New Rainbooms’ has been removed because I felt like it, and the order of the shelves has changed. Furthermore, three new shelves have been created since my library blog.

  • Best of Random - Formerly ‘Favorite Randomness’. This shelf contains stories whose premise is so absurd that it doesn’t seem fair to just call it a comedy. Originally, this contained mostly stories I moved from my comedy shelf, but now I put stories directly in them.

Special shout-out: Aragon’s Daring DONE! and Daemon of Decay’s Murder by the Book

  • Best of Long Shots - It’s a special skill to create a story in one chapter an keep your readers entertained for 10,000 consecutive words. This shelf is dedicated for one-chapter stories with over six thousand words. It’s a unique that contain stories of all genres, an attribute none of the other shelves can claim.

    Special shout-out: Haoryu Changer’s An Obvious Treachery (14.7k words) and B_25’s A Failure’s Return (15.4k words)

  • Best of Dark - Formerly ‘Favorite Horrors’. For the stories who send chills down my spine. Honestly, I should’ve created this shelf sooner; don’t know what took me so long. Any who, these stories are bone-chilling; they make my spine and they impress me with how good they are. Telling a scary story is an art, you guys.

Special shout-out: eemo1o’s A Flash In The Pan and TheDriderPony’s After Glow

News #2: ‘Art For Fanfiction’ Art Contest

On August 23rd, HapHazred organized an art contest for the immensely popular group, Art For Fanfiction. There were three categories: main page image (prize: $50), rules image (prize: $30) and group forum (prize: $30). I participated in all three categories; you can see my entries here

And Uz Naimat is proud to announce that she won!

That’s right! I won a contest. For the first time ever! I’m incredibly happy and golly, I’m just so proud of myself. You can now see my image whenver you enter the main image of the group.

Behold! The award-winning piece!

News #3: My Profile Page

Since all these changes have been made, I figured it is time for some redecorating! My profile has stayed roughly the same since 2020, but a lot has changed since. I have changed a lot since. To reflect that, I redid my entire profile.

For archiving purposes, here’s what the old one looked like:

News #4: A Different Dimension

And now the biggest news of all! You’ve probably received the notification and yes, you’ve read that right. A Different Dimension is now complete. After 8 months.

Originally, the story was supposed to a single chapter long (about 5k words). But when I started writing, I decided to spilt it into two different chapters and told myself I would publish them within one week of each other. I completed the first chapter and just couldn’t wait any longer. Against my better judgement, I went ahead and submitted the story, incomplete. The first chapter out, I slowed down on the second. And then I lost my muse so I paused. One thing led to another and the story was left to gather dust.

I finished it, yes, but I find myself thoroughly unsatisfied with the ending. It barely even qualifies as an ending. If anyone has some advice I’m all ears.

Now that the story is complete, though, do you recognize where the chapter titles come from? Let me know in the comments!

And that’s all, folks! It has been a busy few months and I’ll be active for the months that follow. I’m also planning a second contest entry, this time in FanOfMostEverything’s Ancestral Tribute Contest. Stick around for that!

Congrats on taking the forum category! I really liked your rules piece too; all of your work had something strong going for it. Making each entry so topic-centric was a great choice, and the lived-in map room is an especially great way to represent the forum. Having very clear denotation for threads and topics is important for a group, and working that angle shows your savvy.

I... haven't read your story- but I'm glad you finished it! I can deeply sympathize with the heady desire to just impatiently have it out there, as well as the... reluctance to finish it. I can't say I'm so good with that, myself; it's been months since I updated my most popular story! :twilightsheepish:

Without having read the actual piece because i'm a recalcitrant knob -I can't give any specific advice, but don't be afraid to workshop it! It's always okay to go back over your own work if you're unsatisfied with it, you just need to make it clear that it's been edited after the fact. It's your own words: do what you want with them!

I feel ya. It gets worse, though. ‘Cause when your muse leaves you, your story is left to gather dust.
