About to embark on a rail journey! Which is why I was going to publish this blog three days ago but then forgot.

Trains wait for nopony

I'm bound for Everfree Northwest, and I'm going to take the train, recreating Silver Glow's journey to Seattle, as well as some of Sweetsong's. Granted, I'll be in a roomette rather than hiding out in the end platform on a grainer, so I suppose I won't get the real experience, but it'll be fun just the same. I haven't taken a long-distance Amtrak train since the nineties.

When I get to Seattle, I've got two panels and maybe a third (that's up to the con organizers)—the first is called Harnesses, Saddlebags, and Horseshoes, and it's on Friday at 11:30 am. Not only will you see dozens of diagrams drawn by me, but you'll also get to find out if I get so excited about harnesses that I just gloss over saddlebags and horseshoes. Then on Saturday, I've got another one called Building a Lived-In World, which is at 5:00 pm. I won't say that one's worth skipping dinner for, but if you want to learn about how to put background details in stories that make them feel more alive, well. . .

The maybe third is on Sunday at 3:15 pm.

For those of you who won't be at EFNW (or decide to skip a panel in favor of a meal or the merch hall or whatever), I'll eventually put up the links for the PowerPoints or at least the pictures of ponies in hand-drawn harnesses.

I love background ponies

If y'all are headed in from the East, maybe wave at the Amtrak plodding along below? And maybe get jealous that I could, in theory, open a window and not get sucked out and die. Also trees. So many trees.

If you're gonna be at EFNW find me, I'm easy to spot. Over six feet (ten meters) tall, probably wearing a top hat with ears, and if things go well, sitting in front of y'all at my panels. (If things go very well, said panels will have powerpoints and not just me gesticulating wildly.)

Also assuming that Amtrak delivers me where I want to go when I want to get there.

See you there my dude.

I might be able to show up for a day! My company has been bouncing me around the Pacific Northwest this past week, so I might be able to take a day off if I'm nearby. It's hard to say this far in advance.

I hope you enjoy your journey! I very narrowly "missed" Sweetsong in Centralia (I drove through it on I5 the day after the chapter was posted.) I haven't been on Amtrak since 2003, so I hope it's still a great experience!

Have a great trip!

6 feet is approx 2 meters, not ten.

The only real way to take an Amtrak long distance train is in coach.

Have fun! I wish I could make it to EFNW - maybe someday. I think I'd enjoy taking the train to get there too. The Pacific Northwest and Upper Midwest are two parts of the country I haven't made it to yet, and I'd see them a lot better on the ground than from the air.

The Admiral is American. Like many Americans we proudly know almost nothing about this witchcraft that is the metric system, that or he was trolling everyone. My money is on the trolling.

Go and enjoy the con! Wish I could have gone but my expenses became somewhat more tight in early May.

Safe journeys, Biscuit! See you at EFNW!

:yay: ¡Trains Rule! :twilightsheepish:

Have fun at the [ Kirk-Scream ] ¡Khan! [ / Kirk-Sceam ] .

Hoboes exist. They are unionized, and live by the Hobo Code.

Just hope your crew dont follow the example of the UK crew.

Cons, Festivals and Footy on the Saturday?

STRIKE.:twilightoops:

See you there!

Shh, He's American, let him live with his delusion n_n

Have fun Biscuit! Someday we'll meet at a con again and I can show you how well my official biscuit shirt is faring.

A little less of the balancing-on-train-cars that Silver Glow ended up doing would be a good thing.

I wanted to take the train to Seattle but I waited too long before trying to make my purchase and it was more expensive than I remember from previous trips. Anywho hope you have fun at EFNW Admiral.

TIL hoboes can't create lightning. This site is awesome.

I have a list of 700 Hobo names somewhere that John Hodgman created.

There is also a Hobo King, though their most beloved King was "Steam Train" Maury, who earned the title of "Patriarch of the Hoboes"........
And they do work

Oh, I do hope the trip went well! :D

Yeeeah, I'm really hoping my own trip in November goes well.
(Well, and for general improvements, of course. But I will admit that I'm hoping that, even if some trips are still having major issues around then (which... seems likely unless things turn around fast), mine won't be among them.)
