New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Clop batteries running low... and that means it's about time to work on C&C again · 8:15pm Jul 25th, 2022

Though I’d hoped to have it draft complete by the previous weekend, the final ascension chapter of Harmonic Resonance is coming quite slowly, for the reason stated in the title. I’m only 5k words into it even after a week-plus, and I rather suspect that’s going to end up being less than half the size of what’s probably going to end up being a 12k-word chapter.

Being the final chapter involving what is arguably the most difficult character ascension (Sci-Twi) given all the buildup around her in previous entries, the leadup to the main scene and the coda following it are longer, though I promise you’ll still get at least half the chapter devoted to pure M-rated action. But the simple fact is that I find myself more interested in writing the non-adult scenes right now, so I suspect that once I get this done, the final epilogue chapter will come a lot quicker since only a smaller section will be sexy. I’ll then stamp the story complete, and with it, I notch my first ever finished commission.

From there, however, it’s clear that I need a break from clop. So fans of Feathered Hearts will be gratified to hear that I’ll be picking up Continuation and Chronicles again. The next chapter will be titled Battle of Bale: Escape to Aricia and pick up right where the previous one left off. Once it’s done, the relaunched story will have caught up through Chapter 9 of the original Feathered Heart.

After that, things get more interesting. I do intend to incorporate the original plot, of course, which readers of the original may recall involves such things as Marco getting gunnery practice, a corrupted Diamond Dog attack on Aricia, raids against Cloven soldier factories, and even a duel between our favorite Flip-Boy and another eagless. You’ll still see all that, but basically, the continuation will be overlaid on top of it as I don’t want to wait until I’ve exhausted the old story before truly moving ahead with the new one.

Spoilers ahead—do NOT look behind the tags unless you really want to see at least some of what I’m planning for Feathered Hearts, folks. But if you do, and you want something more to look forward to, try this:

Starlight Glimmer is coming soon, and she’s just the vanguard of the help the ponies will send, though one notable figure will be absent from their ranks to start for reasons that will become clear later—let’s just say for now that I’m indeed going to carry out certain reader requests. :raritywink:

And as for Glim-Glam herself, you’ll get to see her in action almost immediately against corrupted gryphon mages and Ibex. And given what even the show canonized as her excellent tactical mind and powerful magic, I intend to make her properly badass.

And if you want even more to look forward to? Rainbow will eventually arrive with the retrained Wonderbolts, and you can bet I’m already planning for the first time she and Gilda encounter each other, right in the middle of battle. You can also bet they’ll have a few things to say to each other even as they’re killing Cloven and saving each other’s hide.

So plenty of stuff planned, and that’s to say nothing of more eventual Eros chapters. Those will have to wait, however, until my clop batteries recharge. In the meantime, the aim is to produce a new Feathered Hearts: Continuation and Chronicles chapter by mid-August, and then pick up Midnight Rising again from there.

You’re right, it’s not. But I do tend to put needless pressure on myself with these promises and deadlines. :applejackconfused: I just don’t want to disappoint readers, especially those who have been waiting months for their favorite story to resume.

But most of us reader understand what writers struggle with, and it's okay to put up a limit for yourself so you have a goal to work towards to. Just don't take it as hard if you'll miss a deadline. As long as you keep us updated, so we know you're well and alive, we can wait till the next deadline or the one after.
