Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though. They’re

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Vegas Vacation in the books... · 7:22pm Jul 4th, 2022

I’m home as of Sunday morning but still jetlagged after ten full days over there. I regret I didn’t get rich at the poker tables <wistful sigh>, but I had a blast anyway. Enough so, in fact, that I’m going to make you guys suffer through some pics. Yes, you will finally get to know what your author actually looks like... when I get my online album finished, that is.

This was an expensive vacation—doubly so given recent inflation—but it was needed and worth it, and I made the promise to myself going in that I was wasn’t going to worry about money. That I would do what I want, eat what I want, and not fret about my spending as long as I didn’t exceed my bankroll. And I didn’t.

Back from vacation means back to work, both at the office and on stories. I did not do any writing over there, so it’s time to get back in the saddle for the latter. As promised, first up is Harmonic Resonance, though readers of Feathered Hearts will be happy to know I’m finding myself with temptation to start back into it with Firefly’s well-received conclusion. I’ll aim for a new chapter of HR the weekend after this one (Sunset Shimmer), then the final chapter (Twilight’s transformation) by the end of the month. I’ll follow that up with an epilogue chapter which will have a couple twists, both sexy and non, then stamp the story complete. And then it’s onto Midnight Rising, or I may take a break in there to pen a new chapter of Feathered Hearts.

So much to write, so little time. But at least I feel recharged now. More information and vacation pics as they come available. For now, I’ll simply say that I knocked two things off the bucket list over there: I rode in a monster truck, and I swam in the Colorado River downstream of the Hoover Dam—that’s 53-degree F/11.5 C water, folks, but it feels heavenly when the air temperature is 110 F/43 C.

Oh, what the hell. Here’s a pic proving I did the latter during a kayak trip down the Black Canyon.

More will follow. But until then, be well, and thanks again for the good response on Firefly’s final Into the Storm chapter. And to my American friends and readers, have a very happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇🇺🇸
