Bad Dragon

I write so that one day I may finally stop writing and be free, but these damn new ideas keep finding ways into my brain. I need to write more to vent them out!

I won another contest! This was my entry. · 5:48am May 30th, 2022

Bad Dragon's entry was the one that made me chuckle so I'm picking that as my winner.

And without further ado, here is my story that won the contest:

"That's stupid," Applejack shut down Rainbow Dash's proposal.

Streams of tears burst out down the kneeling Rainbow Dash's cheeks, "But I thought we had something."

"We do. That's why ah said marriage is stupid. We already have each other, and that's all that matters. Marriage wouldn't change that any."

"So, this is not a no. It's a yes?" Rainbow Dash looked up at Applejack.

"It's a: yes, I'm okay with your many fetishes. Just tell me the time and the place you want me to be at."

"Thank you, Applejack. I'll even wear a Wonderbolt's uniform on our wedding day!"

"Again, that's your fetish, not mine."

Congrats on the win. Although I must say...

It's a: yes, I'm okay with your many fetishes.

Stretching that suspension of disbelief more than Bulk Biceps would've stretched his uniform, I'm just sayin' :rainbowlaugh:

5660951 Why do you think so? Is it because you see Applejack as more of a traditional person who hates fetishes?

It's a bit of a running gag to have Rainbow Dash have many or highly outlandish fetishes, whereas Applejack is portrayed as more of the straight mare (as in: the comedy trope, not the other thing, obviously), to be the contrast against Rainbow's deviancies.

Although that might just be me. I know I'm guilty of saddling Rainbow with some... interesting preferences :pinkiegasp:

Also, Applejack has a child running around in the house :applecry:, depending on when this exchange takes place. That sort of thing tends to make one a little more cautious, regardless of other inclinations.

5661103 Yeah, I agree with that.

I had a bit of an issue with Applejack being against marriage. But then again, if she's in a gay relationship, how traditional can she really be?

One way to alleviate that, and I'm speaking in generalities here, for future stories, is to separate her being traditional from her being pragmatic, something that's easily mixed up and that she actually covered in one episode, if memory serves. Make the reason she's for traditional marriage be because she feels it works: it gets the next generation of Apples. You can couple that with a feeling of needing to act a certain way for her parents to be proud.

For a character with that kind of thinking pattern, it helps if she has other siblings who have already gotten offspring or married. Big Mac's tied the knot, and I'm pretty sure the series finale showed his offspring, might be wrong, but either way Big Mac already being in a traditional marriage would take the pressure off of her. And then there's Apple Bloom, too, potentially, depending on the timeframe.

Tl;dr: the traditional thing isn't mutually exclusive to her being in a lesbian relationship, there are angles.

5661173 That is a solution, but it comes with a cost.

For one, I would have had to forgo winning the writing contest. The max word count is 150 words, you see?

The second negative would be the sheer amount of text I would have to write to explain it away. That would dilute the rest of the story and bore the player.

And even if I managed to get away with all that, in the end, it would all feel like me trying to excuse my headcanon with a shotgun tactic, trying to throw everything and the sink at the wall, hoping that something sticks.

It would become a bit messy, is what I'm saying. Counting on a bit of a suspension of disbelief as I do now might actually come with less of a sacrifice.

Obviously, I could have picked a different pairing, but the prompt was AppleDash so...
