New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Feathered Hearts, Harmonic Resonance and Firefly updates · 3:01pm May 23rd, 2022

It’s back to work for me both at the office and writing Firefly. But only after finishing a busy week that included surgery and convalescence (which involved a lot of bloody tissues), a slew of occasionally expensive chores like installing a new toilet and buying some new clothes, and working tirelessly on Harmonic Resonance.

I’m pleased to say the latter had its best release ever, notching no less than nine new likes with the help of some fresh group adds. Fitting, since that might well have been my favorite chapter. It also included a rather shameless reference to Feathered Hearts at the end following Rainbow’s ascension to spacetime-travelling goddess (her special power) that included some teasers for what’s ahead in the story. Fans of the Unleash the Magic series are again invited to check it out, as it’s nearly as wild and crazy as Midnight Rising and Nightmare Night.

For those curious about those teasers but not interested in clop, here’s the lifted excerpt. Don’t worry; I sanitized the passages as the Equestria Girls Rainbow pulls her longtime lover Gilda, a student at Kingdom High (run by Principal Molyneux) into the scene. Potential spoilers ahead!

“So from here on out, Just call me… Hyperdash!” the former Rainbow emphasized her words by running around her friends by stopping and starting, making it look like she was in sixty different places at once, each showing a different and often suggestive pose as her parents hugged and cheered.

“Not a bad name, though I’m still gonna call you Dashie,” Fertile Fields [ascended Applejack] smirked.

“Fine, then me and Gilda are gonna make endless jokes about your name! Speaking of her, just wait until I show Gilda what I’ve become! Or actually… why wait? Hold on a sec, girls!” she directed; her friends blinked and suddenly she was back in her bedroom with a surprised Gilda beside her.

“Huh? Wha?” They saw that Gilda had been pulled out of her home and was wearing a towel after showering. She looked momentarily befuddled at her new surroundings, then saw her longtime lover and sneered, looking her over from head to toe.

“Okay, what’s this about, dweeb? And what’s with all the weird cosplay? It’s a little early for Halloween, isn’t it?” She then noticed the former Applejack hovering in the air and made a show of appraising her. “Huh. Gotta say, AJ, that body and outfit are almost enough to make me interested in you!”

“The name’s Fertile Fields now. Still, Ah reckon that’s the first time you’ve ever complimented me, Sugarcube. Thanks!” She tipped her hat.

“Yeah, well, don’t let it go to your head. So seriously, Dashie… what’s going on?” she demanded to know, looking around her and blinking at the sight of Rainbow’s parents and Scootaloo; the former continuing to hug and cheer while the latter simply stared awestruck. “And did you have to pull me out of my bathroom wearing nothing but a towel?!”

Hyperdash grinned knowingly. “No, but there was something I found that I really wanted to show you. So if you all will excuse us for just a second…” She laid a gloved hand on Gilda’s arm and suddenly disappeared with her in a flash of rainbow light, leaving her girlfriend’s towel behind to flutter to the ground before the pair rematerialized with another prismatic light show the promised second later.

Upon their reappearance, Gilda fell to her knees, looking freaked and sweaty; her normally unruly shock of white hair with purple tips at the front badly disheveled. “I’ve seen some shit… I’ve seen some shit…” was all she could say over and over.

“Excuse me?” Crystal Queen [ascended Rarity] looked offended, putting her hands on her hips. “Must you always resort to vulgarity, Grizelda Behertz?”

“Yeah! Come on, Gilds, you gotta set a better example for Scootaloo!” the former Pinkie piled on.

“Oh, like I haven’t heard it all before…” Scootaloo rolled her eyes as she continued to record the scene on her smartphone for her two friends.

The four ascended females knew well from past experience that Gilda would normally respond with snark, but she remained silent, her gaze distant. “Yeah, sorry about that, C-Q. But you’ll have to forgive her. I just took Gilda through the black hole at the center of our galaxy—Sagittarius A, I think Sci-Twi said it’s called?—to show her one of the wilder alternate versions of herself,” Hyperdash explained with a growing grin.

“In that world, she was an actual half-eagle, half-lion griffon who got dumped by my pony counterpart and moved back to her homeland in Europe. She then joined their military and ended up fighting a war with some Grimm-like creatures alongside a detachment of U.S. Marines, where she became a hero and fell head over heels for both a buxom blonde named Tara and some Filipino dude named Marco. As crazy as it all sounds, it’s only the last part she’s having some trouble with.” She patted her longtime girlfriend on the head.

“But he was so dweeby…” Gilda complained, her gaze unfocused. “Even if he was fun and good in a fight. She was nice, though…”

“You serious, girl?” Fertile Fields looked dubious, exchanging a glance with an equally bemused Fluttershine. “Griffons, Grimm, interspecies romance, and the U.S. Marines? Aw, come on, Dash! That sounds like something straight out of somebody’s really bad fanfiction!”

“My word!” Crystal Queen raised a gloved hand to her mouth as she tried and failed to visualize it. “I must agree, Hyperdash. It does seem rather unlikely. It sounds like one of those admittedly awful works of writing by my sister and her friends.”

“Hey!” A very indignant Scootaloo shouted, echoed by matching ones from Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle over her phone. “We spent weeks on those!”

“Aw, be nice, Crystal Queen! I read them! They weren’t that bad!” Sugar High protested.

“Oh, you think so, darling? You didn’t have to edit them!” She rubbed her eyes with a gloved hand as Scootaloo and her friends continued to grumble, the former crossing her arms over her now very ample chest.

“Unlikely or not, that reality exists,” Hyperdash said smugly, standing behind a still-kneeling Gilda to rest her gloved hands on her bare shoulders. “And I gotta say, Gilda here was pretty freaking awesome in it! Hell, so was my pony counterpart. They kicked major tail even before they kissed and made up! Don’t you agree, girlfriend? And before you ask, yes, we’re still girlfriends!” She raised Gilda up and turned her around to embrace and kiss her, taking her breath away.

“Wow! Way cool!” Sugar High said with another burst of fireworks as Gilda melted into her lover’s embrace, her body quickly maturing to match the former Rainbow’s. “Oh! Oh! So were we there too?”

“You could say that.” The former Rainbow’s grin got broader as Gilda could only stare up at her with a dazed expression as she gazed in amazement at what her longtime girlfriend had become. “Not just me, either—all our pony counterparts were! Take you, Fluttershine—you’d never believe what you became over there unless I showed you! None of you would!”

So yes, Rainbow and even Fluttershy are going to be appearing in Feathered Hearts later, but that lies in the future via means and timing I’m going to keep secret for now, as well as their role in the story. Next up on my writing plate is Firefly, however, and the upcoming chapter will not be an easy one. I’m picking up the abandoned threads of Denim_Blue, who was handling the Changeling side of the story. For reasons none of us will ever know, he simply up and left the site without so much as a word of a goodbye to any of us, deleting his account and all his excellent stories, leaving many of them unfinished.

I actually think I’m partially blame for that, piling so many prereading responsibilities on him that he got overwhelmed. :ajsleepy: I know he was having some family issues too at the height of the pandemic, even if he never really said what they were. Regardless, I think the site and his stories had become a burden to him, so he left them all behind. Would have appreciated at least a heads-up, however.

Yeah, I still miss him. :raritycry: But I will attempt to pick up the torch of his Changeling lore and run with it, completing the story of the Raven/Talaeus assault on the Lepidoptes hive early in the war, including fleshing out the character of his new Talaeus Mage who is intended to be the main magical rival of future Commodore Prince Blueblood.

It’s hard picking up another author’s half-finished tale when you don’t know what they were planning and are uncertain of certain parts of their lore (My work on Feathered Hearts not withstanding only because I was quite familiar with that and even helped preread it back in the day), but I will do my best. This may require more time than most, however, so I ask for everyone’s patience as I get this underway. Best guess is I’ll have it out in two weeks.

Past that will be a second and potentially a third Firefly chapter, after which I shift over to writing clop (a mixture of Midnight Rising, Harmonic Resonance and Feathered Hearts - Eros) for most of the summer, perhaps interrupted by the occasional Feathered Hearts main story chapter and a vacation to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker for the first time in three years.

But as always, we’ll see. I’ll conclude with a warm welcome to all new Harmonic Resonance readers and an invitation to check out the rest of my stories, clop and otherwise. There’s plenty more where that came from!

Huh. A pegasus analogue exploring other timelines. That sounds familiar... though Hyperdash definitely has the edge on speed and actually knowing what to expect at her destination.

It's always sad to see someone go, and a silent departure rarely bodes well. At least there's FimFetch...

Can’t say I’d heard of that story before. Interesting. I’ll give it a read later.

True. At least with DEL, he left his Fimfiction account behind with all his stories still present for us to enjoy anew.
