New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Feathered Hearts C&C part 26 in prereads; will launch this weekend · 6:57pm Mar 31st, 2022

It’s currently coming in at just shy of 11k words and will probably end up being around 12k, once all editing passes are complete and it’s been fleshed out just a little bit more. For all the trouble writing this gave me at times—it’s the first Feathered Hearts battle scene where I wasn’t working directly from one in the original story and had to come up with it completely from scratch, including inventing a new pure Cloven form and determining how they would use corrupted Ibex—it seems to have jelled nicely at the end.

Likely release day is Saturday morning. Unless, that is, I’m feeling particularly frisky, in which case I’ll try making some graphics for the new chapter in Photoshop to show battle progression ala Firefly. But that will delay its release until Sunday or Monday, given I’ll have to make brand new icons for human, Cloven and griffon units as well as a base map showing the steadholt of Bale and its layout.

I’ll think about it. I know readers appreciate those graphics in Firefly given they make it far easier to follow the course of a battle, but you also have to understand that’s a LOT of work involving many hours sitting in front of my desk with a pad and stylus. Regardless, I think readers will enjoy the fast and suspenseful combat scenes that will consume the first 75% of the chapter.

It will end with what I hope will be a fanservice moment involving everyone’s favorite earth griffon, while the remainder will be given over to our heroes planning an Ibex-enabled escape to the next steadholt in line towards Aricia. To that end, our new Ibexian friends will figure prominently in the final section, and for the first time, you’ll learn their perspective on humanity and just why they’ve launched these operations despite the danger of war.

Thanks for your patience, folks. And I ask that readers of Harmonic Resonance be patient in turn. My clop batteries seem depleted at the moment and need a jump start following my illness. I’ll try to provide it this weekend and aim to have a finished draft by next.

I just finished my pass. Looks great to me! Creating a map would be cool but don't burn yourself out too much! Those maps take forever to make.

I'll look for the notification!

Sweeeeeet! :rainbowdetermined2:

Looking forward to it!
