Endings And Cliffhangers · 1:03am Mar 5th, 2022

So, after more than three years, I've finally put The Princess's Bit to bed. It's now complete. It ended up becoming my second-longest story, but the biggest problem was that I lost my drive to write for over a year. Part of that was losing my long-time job, and part of it was a medical issue, but most of it was just... me.

Oh, well. I'm not back to my old productivity, but I can occasionally get something down on paper, and hopefully I can bear down and work out what needs to be done on Fool's Night.

I want it to be shorter and less sprawling than The Princess's Bit turned out, but you know what they say about plans and hopes.

I really didn't intend the story to be as... relevant as it's proving to be. And the outline for Fool's Night is shaping up to be much the same.

Anyways, I'll try to not pull another disappearing act like what happened in 2020-21.

Oh, right. The cliffhanger.

Sorry about that, folks. It was always going to be like that. I started this whole thing with the idea that they were counting down to why are you looking at spoilers, darling? :duck:

But if you're the sort of reader who insists on a story being complete before reading. Well, it's complete. If not exactly finished, being the middle of a planned trilogy.

See you on the next trip, as my co-worker John likes to say.

I still have to catch up, but congrats on finishing! I look forward to reading the rest of it when I get the chance! (Hopefully soon!)

Some monsters take longer to slay than others, and put up a massive fight in the process. Grats, Saint George. Time to hang this head on the wall and go hunting for the next one. :pinkiehappy:

It’s been a great story, you’ve got me excited to see what’s going to happen next! Congrats on finishing the second book!

...I think I'm either forgetting something in the story, unaware of what you're thinking of it being relevant to, or just failing to make the connection, sorry.

Because I already finished the chapter and wanted to see how the event was described here? :D

Good luck, and thank you for writing!

Ah, yes, and as the comments have needed to remind me to say (perhaps I'm more tired than I thought at the moment), congratulations on completing this story! :)

Is there hope for another Isakei meet up with these characters?

5641683 I'm always game for it, but it depends not just on Mitch, but also if we could figure a way to make it work properly. I don't think we did his story (both of them) justice with the last visit, since the characters really didn't reflect one fourth of the growth and depth they have in their original world. I think it was in part that I had just started the concept and didn't really lead the writing the right way to make them shine, but whether there's interest or not, only time can tell.

It was also written in anticipation of the new story, and reflected the deep cynicism of that period's characters, rather than who they eventually grew into. Think of them as a possibility that didn't happen.

This just means that I will get lots more of these characters, so I don't care a fig for cliffhangers!

Oddly satisfying, that end.
