    Update

Hey, I wanted to give you all a heads up.

So this next chapter is a pretty major one for the story - on the level of the Gourd Fest, Twilight and Starlight in the snow, and the final cluster of 4-6.

As such, I've been taking my time and am 7k words in and I know it's going to be more than double that.

So I watched the last several episodes...

It was such a cute ending. Very nostalgic-feeling. Didn't cry, but it made me reflect on the show that has been a constant in my life since spring of 2012.

If you've heard any controversy about it, don't heed it any concern. It's the squalling of children unhappy that the story isn't what they wanted it to be - as it has been every season.

    It's the endgame, y'all

That was a killer premiere. Honestly, Grogar has this gravitas to him, this insight and perspective that's already established him, in my mind, as a terrifying MLP villain. Being the source of everything evil, all the monsters we've seen, it's all on him. And that voice and the design? Oh! I love this villain.

Last chapter of act 4 is finally finished

At 44K words and 103 single-spaced pages on gdocs, the next chapter of 'The Broken Bond' is at last finished, and ho boy, a lot happens. I just need to edit it - expect it Saturday if not tomorrow. Thank you all for being patient with me.

A new story I'll be working on WAY into the future · 2:04am Dec 10th, 2012

Alright wow. Y'know, I was just laying in bed, thinking about stuff when a sudden realization hit me: What will I do after 'My Little GLaDOS'? Now, granted, I won't be finishing that story 'till the end of the summer if I'm lucky.

So, I started thinking and thinking and thinking. I chalked ideas on my whiteboard, ripped some clumps of hair out, flipped a table, y'know. The usual thinking process of my stories. And to be quite frank, I like it a lot. Here's what I eventually came up with:

'Millennia ago, a great war decimated Equestria into nothing but a bleak forsaken wasteland. This was the Ancient Alicorn's rebellion against their godly ancestors, the Leviathans. With both sides nearing extinction, the Leviathans retreated into the darkest corners of space, recovering, awaiting the day when it's time to reclaim their home. Thousands of years later, right as Equestria is nearing it's
peak of prosperity, an ancient prophecy left by Celestia's ancestors is about to come to fruition.
The Leviathans are preparing for invasion, and they are willing to annihilate all who oppose them.
It's up to Twilight Sparkle to unite an entire nation against this ruthless threat. The Changelings, Discord, griffons and zebra, everypony has their part to play. Will the Elements be able to unite all of Equestria? Will Twilight sacrifice friendship for survival?
That's for you to decide. And remember: Every little choice can massively impact the outcome of the story.'

So, in a nutshell, it's kind of a 'choose your own adventure' plot. Kind of. How will it work? Well, after a chapter is posted I'll give everyone a week to vote one of two options, and the one that gets the most votes will shape the next chapter and many after that.

Random Example: A) Twilight should intercept a Leviathan raid attacking an alicorn ruin to retrieve an all powerful object that could help with the war.
B) Twilight should intercept the Leviathan team attacking Manehatten, but at the cost of the alicorn weapon.

Trust me, I've got every possible outcome out in my head and written on my whiteboard.

And there'll be many moments where Twilight will have to choose between the best side like let's say... oh I don't know.

A random example: King Sombra is trying to reclaim his throne at the Chrystal Empire, but first he'll have to defeat Cadence. The tyrants are locked in battle with both rulers telling Twilight to assist them. She weighs in the pros and cons of both. By helping Sombra, she'll get a stronger ruler leading the Chrystal Empire into battle and he's willing to use the Chrystal Heart as a weapon. But in doing so, Sombra will most likely expand his territory across Equestria for years to come. However, if she helps Cadence, it's almost a certainty that the Empire will not live to see the end of the war, but Twilight will remain loyal to Princess Cadence. Then it's up to the readers to decide.

The choices are essentially going to be Life regardless of Justice or Justice regardless of Life. Powerful stuff.

So some people may draw immediate comparisons to the plot of Mass Effect 3, which I totally don't blame them for. Hell, it's a brilliant plot in itself. Uniting an entire galaxy against a mighty threat? How cool is that! But really, the idea came to me while listening to the song 'The Humbling River'.

So, tell me what you guys think and provide constructive criticism if any.

Main Characters Are:
-Twilight Sparkle
-Legonae (An OC Ancient Alicorn that accompanies Twilight on her travels. Now thinking about it, she's a lot like Javik but less... douchy)
-Rainbow Dash
-Pinkie Pie
-Applejack
-Princess Celestia
-Queen Chrysalis
-Discord and Topsy Turvy (In my interpretation, Discord can only do illusion chaos while Topsy Turvy can do destructive chaos)
-King Sombra
-Princess Cadence
-Admiral LeFrair (An OC griffon who, unlike most griffons, is a level-headed and calculating general; plays a pivotal role in the griffon's recruitment)
-King K'thellet (An OC zebra; king of the Tuchan Kingdom and father of Zecora)
-Aldavax (The oldest dragon alive; self-proclaimed leader of a small yet intelligent clan of dragons who wishes to change the land's views on dragons)
-Atunix (The most influential dragon in Equestria; angry, stubborn, and the spitfire brother of Aldavax)

Side Characters:
-Zecora
-Gilda
-Trixie
-Princess Luna
-Spike
-Rarity
-Fluttershy
-Shining Armor
-Artemis the Dreadful (ruler of the Leviathans; one of the most powerful beings in existence yet this is all they know of him)

Now, I probably won't be writing this until I finish My Little GLaDOS, or at least almost finish it. So, tell me what you guys think!

Unrelated, but I wanna make people puke on their keyboards.

Big plans there Obelisk. Can you really pull it off?

I seriously hope so. This sounds interesting.

...
....
.....

I don't get it... :derpyderp2:

I really don't. :rainbowhuh:

So care to explain more?

This sounds like an excellent idea! One question, though: who is Topsy-turvey?

Mass Effect crossover? Yes. Remember, Leviathans are in Mass Effect Three.

Too epic for me. But go on, i am sure that a lot of people will get a blast with this.

592663 Leviathan is the name of a race in Mass Effect 3's new DLC. :facehoof:

S73

Mass Effect Much? NOT THAT THAT'S AS BAD THING, BUT STILL...

Also, Loyal2Luna wrote a very popular ME fic you could draw inspiration from: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/20545/Mass-Effect-2---DLC%3A-The-Equestrian-Equation-

Best of luck, I will be looking forward to this.

*Fluttershy on side character list
I'm gonna go rage while I wright an essay kthxby

592670 Leviathan is the name of a reaper.

Silly.

592670 Don't facehoof me! :twilightangry2: Sorry, contrary to popular belief I'm not a ginormous Mass Effect fan. Yes, I played the main 3 games but after the EC I, you know, stopped playing it. I didn't know they were making DLC. Eh, whatever. I just looked 'em up and the only similarities to my Leviathans and ME3's is the name.

I can see where you think people would first think of Mass Effect 3, though honestly... the plot of that game was atrocious (the who Crucible and Kid part) BUT I digress. You seem to be ambitious in this story, and by ambitious I mean really really REALLY ambitious. In fact, it may be too ambitious for one writer to do, unless that becomes your life or you plan on spending a year on. I'd love to offer any assistance in the story you can have! I'd honestly love to see it be done, but I just don't see how. Not anytime soon, at least. But good luck!

592705 Ah. So that is a pretty good reason.

Sorry, but this came to mind after reading this.
Also my choices would be.
1: Get the weapon.
2. Help Sombra.
Yes, I am heartless.

592710 You're right. This is pretty ambitious. I'll have to hire a pre-reader or two. Or three. But let's cross that bridge when we get there.

This sounds incredible, and if you do this, I will love you forever.

*gasp*
You have a whiteboard devoted to FimFic too? :pinkiehappy:

592663 I thought her name was Screwball. :rainbowhuh:
Or am I confusing her with another crazy?

592723

I think you'll need more then just a pre-reader. If you're going to have the choices impact the ending, and other sections of the story, then you should really only have four or five of those choices. You'd probably need another co-author or writer. It is just two ambitious and difficult to do a story of this magnitude by its lonesome.

592746 The fandom tosses between the two names of Topsy Turvy and Screwball Chaos. It's like Colgate and Minuette. I like both names. :ajsmug:

592798 Jesus Christ this is sounding a lot like that... other fic that has a lot of popularity and others claim it was over-ambitious. But I digress, not EVERY choice affects the ending. There will be many little choices here and there that impact the bigger choices, like how easy it is to get this guy to do this thing because Twilight helped him find his kid, or some shit like that.

You know, what with how damn good of a writer that you are... I don't rightly give a damn WHAT the story is. I am going to read the shit OUT OF IT. :moustache:

592799

Eh, Screwball is much more generally accepted than Topsy Turvey. I actually haven't seen that one used for weeks.

592823 Your comment made me smile.

592811

I can understand not having all the choices effect the ending, but looking at this from a probability angle... the amount of variations in a story are too much for one author to handle, unless it becomes their life goal. Mass Effect had many writers, and most games like that have multiple writers to share the load. (At least, I think they do) For at least every choice you gotta write two chapters afterwards, where the choice differs, so just having one major choice you are talking about have twice the amount of work, feed in more choices... and it becomes a mess. UNLESS you want like, 500 word chapters, but I believe that would do the story harm. I really would love to see this story done, but one author, no matter how good they are, seems like it would be out of reach. If you took like 4-5 co writers under your wing, I could see it possibly working. But for one, I really don't see ya being successful, which is a shame.

592799 Now Colgate and Minuette...
I like to go with the thought that Minuette is the real name and Colgate is a toothbrush incident related nickname.

But I always thought Screwball was a fitting name for our chaotic pony. (I like the name Topsy Turvy though...)

592705
Quick sanity check. Are your Leviathans the squid-based ones, or the Sea Serpent type? If the second, are you counting Steven Magnet as one of their number, or as an Asian Style dragon?

593007 Neither. Leviathan is just a name I thought that'd fit an ancient all powerful race.

You might get more/different ideas after Season Three finishes. What if Star Swirl the Bearded and Discord are one and the same?

This. I like this.

I'd probably like it, but I know I'd be rooting for the Leviathans all the way through the story, vigilant knowing they'll almost certainly lose unless there's a huge and unexpected plot twist... Hint hint.

I understand none of this.... so ok do it :derpytongue2:

...If the Leviathans can go into space, why won't they just glass the planet, then terraform it? It makes much more sense...

meh, want more portles, maybe the Leviathan is actually whats left of apicher labratorys! with chell inside!!!
pweese:applecry:
do it, FOR SCIENCE:flutterrage:

Excellent idea! I only wonder if we will all doom ourselves in the end.

Artemis: I SHALL SPEAK OF LATE TO THE STUDENT.

Twilight: What now? It'd be better to surrender.

Artemis: I CAME HERE TO RECLAIM THE PLACE OF THE LEVIATHANS.

Twilight: Yes, and you failed. When you came here, what did you expect?

Artemis: I OBSERVED YOUR PLANET AND IT'S INHABITANTS.

Twilight: And?

Artemis: YOU WERE RIGHT. WHAT ARE MY ORDERS NOW!?

Twilight: So this is all you really are. A soldier without orders.

Artemis: THEN I SHALL FOLLOW THE PRIMARY ORDER, THE LEVIATHAN INSTINCT TO DESTROY, TO CONQUER!

Twilight: What for? What's the point!?

Artemis:...

Twilight: it's all gone. Everything you were, everything you stood for.

Artemis: THEN...WHAT SHALL I DO?

Twilight: Alright then. If you want orders, follow this one:
Kill yourself.

Artemis: THE LEVIATHANS MUST SURVIVE!!!

Twilight: The Leviathans have failed! So why don't you finish the job, and make the Leviathans extinct, rid Equestria of your filth, WHY DON'T YOU JUST DIE!?!?!?

Artemis:...

Twilight:...

Artemis:...YOU WOULD MAKE A GOOD LEVIATHAN.

Twilight: :twilightoops:

604754 My Whoovian senses are tingling

Sounds great to me!

Sounds good.

Only thing I don't understand is why the God of Chaos can only do Illusion Chaos. Seems off. :I
