New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

So I finally watched Starship Troopers... · 8:39pm Jan 18th, 2022

And now I see a lot better some of what DEL was getting at with certain references and even parts of the storyline.

It’s a very good and very unabashedly R-rated movie full of boobs, guns and gore, though the gratuitousness of it did nothing to detract from the surprisingly compelling story in my eyes. I greatly appreciated the fact it had few sacred cows and even the main characters (with one exception) had little to no plot armor. I will not offer an opinion on whether it’s pro or anti-fascist as various people say; I’ll just say it’s very provocative and does makes you think. Better still, it even gave me an idea I might use later in the story. A twist perhaps even worthy of DEL himself.

I *think* I know what line the Marines were referring to when one of them says he’d lose his shit if Marco shouted it. I was actually a bit confused as to why the Marines wanted to give Marco the name of Rico (the movie protagonist) for being Filipino, given the movie Rico definitely wasn’t. But apparently, he was in the book the movie was based on? I might have to read that, now.

In any event, the next main story chapter has topped 13.5k words and remains on track for release tomorrow evening. It’s primarily Gilda learning all about guns from our three favorite civvies, though I admit to a little trepidation over the embedded R-rated sequence that occurs about halfway down.

I’m pushing it, and I know I’m pushing it. And yet, I still want to do it, as it makes sense (to me) for the story at a point when all the characters really need to release some tension and be reminded of how much they mean to each other. I say again that’s there’s nothing explicit in it; in fact, not a single article of armor or clothing is removed. Then how can it be R-rated? Well, call it precautionary, as a skilled author can make clear what’s happening with implied/indirect description alone. It also establishes that aftereffects of the potion-spiked cider remain. But as you’ll see later—and there was actually one subtle hint of it in the previous chapter—some of them might actually be favorable in war!

Consider this your second of three content advisories, with the final one coming in red text of the Author’s Notes at the top of the page when the chapter is published. If it’s an issue, just skip past it, because there’s plenty of other things in the chapter from the history of firearms to a well-deserved dis of Raleigh. By chapter’s end, you’ll also get your first update on what’s happening back in Arnau and throughout the Kingdom. You know, I really should start thinking about making some maps for this...

As for Eros, which needless to say goes far beyond merely R-rated, I have 3000 words down on the next entry as most of my focus was on the new main story chapter this weekend, but I’ll accelerate work on it and I’m still aiming for a weekend release. Pencil it in for Sunday, and stand by, prereaders.

So you watched Starship Troopers, but have you read it? Would you like to know more? Then go, pick up a copy of R. A. Heinlein's work today, at your local bookstore or library!

Be a better person than the director read the book

Message received. I guess I owe it to not just readers but the original author and DEL himself to read the original, so I’m ordering it off Amazon as we speak.

I will not offer an opinion on whether it’s pro or anti-fascist as various people say

If I can enjoy something like Zootopia, you can enjoy Starship Troopers. That's all I'm going to say.

Would you like to know more?

The only good bug, is a dead bug!

The movie is good. It is cheesy action.

The book is good. It is very much not cheesy action.

The movie started as something else, someone realized they had the rights to Starship Troopers, and they mushed the two together.

Hey Firesight, i have a good map on my onceshot story about The world mlp plays in. Maybe you can use it. Alternativ you can use the Maps of 'Equestria at War' because its very detailed and gives Griffonia a good and detailed look if i remember correctly!

Citizen, or civilian? :ajsmug:

That’s doubly true when you’re a software developer! :rainbowlaugh:

That depends. Do you know the difference between the two?

Interesting. I honestly had no idea. :rainbowhuh: Now I really need to read the book.

The movie started as something else, someone realized they had the rights to Starship Troopers, and they mushed the two together.

Usually, that doesn’t work, but it more or less did here. Or maybe I was just able to appreciate the movie’s simple boobs-and-blood fun. if so, I guess it was best that I came in having not read the book, because I did find the movie a good popcorn-eater and enjoyable on its own merits.

5628851

I SAID THE ONLY GOOD BUG IS A DEAD BUG! DON'T YOU WANT TO LIVE FOREVER APE!?

I’m assuming that’s the line they wanted Marco to shout. If so, don’t worry—he will, or at least a variation of it!

Thanks, but I generally use my own maps which I create in Photoshop. You can check the ones in Firefly for examples:

If you like them, consider it more reason to read Firefly. Seriously, I need some more readers for that.

Starship Troopers, Fuck yes. I love the dialog that pops up around it, can easily be discussed for hours.

Glad to see you're doing your part.

(Side note: If you ever watch the second or third movie, they are... pretty underwhelming, in my opinion. It's like all their budget when into making this song.)

Carefully what you with for. I probably make 2 comments per chapter. You'r red counter might explode...

As Marco says in tonight’s chapter: promises, promises… :raritywink:

Once my current re-reading with one or two comment/s per chapter is complet i'm afraid our story comment section will look like a well used breeding mare, filled with (in dark theme) white goodness from top to bottom. It will be my pleasure :moustache:

Everyday Life With Guardsmares has 142 chapters. I'm currently at 63 and daaamnnn. The comment section in overview look like a breeding herd come over one mare. All the white text might paint a hole room white twice once i'm finished...

Damn... Last story i had 116 chapter re-readed... Now that check how mutch i comment... Daaammmn... I feel sorry for you'r comment section once my re-reading is complet...
