New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising Chapter 11 launches tomorrow morning... · 5:04pm Sep 25th, 2021

To give my prereaders more time to hit it. In the meantime, you are invited to reread the previous chapter (”10: Pinkified Dragonessess v2”), as I finally went back and made some long-promised changes and enhancements to it. Back during its initial release, commenter MSie95 suggested at the time that the dragon females needed a bit more description and variety:

Nice, nice. Lot's of Dragoness characters, very nice. Wish, they could be described a little more, though. Like height, horn shape, fitness and plumpness, to add some personality to them. But it must be really hard to juggle about 7 characters at the same time.

He’s not wrong about it being very hard to juggle them all, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s right—they deserved some added description and needed some variety of their forms. So they have them now—at least to start. :raritywink: He also said this:

Also, shame there was no Smoulder. Just for funsies. She would never Ember forget this moment.

Well, I’m all about fanservice, folks, and I’ve found a way to get Smoulder into the story later, a few chapters out. How will I handle the underage component? Simple: given the much more extended dragon lifespans that are canon to my stories, being in early adolescence means she’s actually in her mid-20s. :ajsmug: As for who she’d be with... I think I know, but I’d willing to entertain suggestions, too.

Anyway, be looking for the new chapter tomorrow morning, and check out the enhancements to the previous one in the meantime. It’s been over half a year since I last posted a new Midnight Rising chapter, so you can reread it refresh your memory about where the story is, if nothing else.

Alright then, I've read the prologue, and seems to be a promising start.

Having recently returned to Fimfiction however, I was wondering what changes there are between this one and the original. I'm going to go on a wild guess and assume that the newer canon since the original story's creation will have been incorporated into it, but the question remains how much of it? Not to mention any other changes that you might incorporate down the line.

Just wanted to know see what you intend to do with the fic going forward.

Hello and welcome back. I’m assuming from your comment that you read the original version of the story.

To answer your question, this revamped new version is greatly expanded and improved. This includes additional characters, races and lore that came in the meantime, certainly--the human Maud Pie makes a rather interesting appearance, for example, as do races like the dragons and Abyssinians.

But that alone doesn’t do my changes justice. The scenes are greatly fleshed out and there’s a lot more of backstory and back-and-forth banter among the characters now; the Shadowbolt girls don’t lose their personalities or propensity for blunt talk/insults even as they’re being punished. I also completely changed up several scenes that I found weak or half-assed, most notably to this point around Pinkie Pie and Rarity, who now show the dragons how to have fun over the space of three chapters, including a tsundere-like Ember. I also switched up the punishment of the Fleur de Lis and the Shadowbolt boys and gave more reasons for them.

Bottom line--it’s a much different story than before, with much more involved scenes and dialog along with all the M-rated action generally being amped up even further. So welcome back and give it a try. I hope you enjoy!
