Are the MLP Ponies big enough to be ridden? I'm pretty sure you could do some sort of friendship lesson with the early season with Twilight Sparkle. You could probably convince her to be ridden around. But would her body be big enough to handle a human on her back? Would the human's feet be touching the ground as he sits on her back?
Princess Celestia is a tall, big pony, not a big issue. But your average pony might be difficult to ride.
I think the princesses probably could be. But I don't think the average ones could. But Big Mac might be able to handle it.

I would not want to go on Big Mac's back. It would feel strange on the back of a man (stallion) as a heterosexual. I would feel much more at ease on a mare's back.
Also, unless the human is an alternate universe where the ponies are bigger than normal. It may work fine then.

But I guess a unicorn could use their magic to balance the weight of the human.
A pegasus might be able to do it by hovering a couple feet off the ground. It would depend on how hard it is to hover in the first place, let alone carrying an adult human. Rainbow Dash was the only one we saw regularly hovering instead of walking, but she's a bit of an outlier.
The ponies might be to short to not be ridden in a platonic way. Celestia, Luna, and/or maybe Candance could do it. But if it was the other meaning than all night long.

I think the ponies are more than strong enough. They can pick up huge rocks. It's just that their bodies are short for human's tall legs. They would end up touching the ground with their feet.

Big Mac and Shining Armor would probably be able to handle it, I remember hearing somewhere that the average size of a regular pony was about waist height (Around 4 feet) so probably none of the 6 would be able to handle a regular human without their feet touching the ground. The 3 Princesses would definitely be able to handle it, a mountain sized Celestia, Luna, and Cadance, could carry a bunch of people on their backs and heads.
When you consider that your average Equestrian pony is a little bit bigger than a Shetland, people ride those and even use them to haul things. I personally use my personal headcanon that Equestrian ponies are around 16 hands high at the wither(for reference, the largest breed of irl pony is at max, 14 hands high at the wither) and as such, they're not true ponies, but small horses. In mlp:fim we have seen horses. The Saddle Arabians are horses and they stand as tall as Luna, which would make Celestia at least the size of a Clydesdale or other breed of draft horse. I'm currently reading an HiE where all of the ponies are anthro and the height of NBA forwards, and the princesses are the height of Andre the Giant or Big Show.

I would not like to be on Mac Mac's and Shining Armor back. It would feel really strange for me, and for them. Since we are all heterosexual.
If the ponies are bigger than normal in an alternate universe. It should be fine. But the cannon-based pony size may be too small for the likes of the mane six.

I feel like there should be a group about horse riding.
I'm like 90% sure the relevant background details were deliberately set up so that this would only be reasonable for members of the actual target audience, but that's nonetheless where things stand. The diarchs and the Saddle Arabians are there if you need them. Size-changing magic probably exists too, but going from large to small is probably easier than going small to large.
