In the far future off the pony pov series (at least a 1000 years), where the Alicornification singularity has taken off at full speed... the Earth Bound Kings aren't even from the same galaxy as Equus.
Never realized it while writing it, but the Earthbound Kings are cyborg versions of KOMPLEX, from Bucky O'Hare, planet sized machines consuming all in its path to serve its own endless growth. Their form was inspired from Cubia of .hack//GU.
For wondering what they look like: Imagine a silver planet size sphere with seeming random tech on its surface with a continent sized skull for a face.
In true Lovecraftian fashion, the Earthbound Kings aren't even likely aware of what they're doing, simply spending their virtual infinity in their personal VR worlds, a brain at the center of each, maybe even experiencing eons after an ever accelerating rate. Oblivious to the outside world.
While the automated machinery does everything for them, the AIs controlling it all maybe sentient, but NOT in anyway sapient!
To them, the Alicorns and other ascended are just really, really, REALLY good batteries to grab and install. The Earthbound Kings are immensely terrifying and powerful, but have no grand vision or plans regarding the real world, only their life support machinery works tirelessly to consume all and continue their personality artificial mental paradises, until the heat death of the universe catches up with them.
If anyone wants to use them in pony fanfics, go right ahead.
Reminds me of CelestAI in stories set after Earth's human population is gone, either emigrated or dead.
From what I read on TV Tropes, she then wanders the universe, offering emigration to sufficiently "human" species while consuming the rest as fuel.
