Chapter Six Part 6 Up! (March 19th) · 5:24am Mar 19th, 2021

So Part 6 of Chapter 6 is up! You can go read it right now. Go on. I won’t stop you. Please, do so. Then you can come back.

What, you expect me to say something? Nope. You can wait till Monday. :trollestia:

Okay but seriously, I do have a few things I want to say about what was discussed in this part. First, there’s Cozy’s background.

Cozy Glow is a fascinating character to me. At first glance she’s just an evil child. She’s a psychopath who cares for no one, casually gets rid of those who are in her way, and someone I fully believe would’ve been a killer--and glorifying in it while she was at it--if she was allowed to be in her source material. There’s a reason she enjoys killing so much in IHW, and it’s not just because of the necromancy corrupting her. Though that certainly didn’t help.

But then you explore her deeper, and you see there’s more to it. What the heck caused her to be so messed up inside? Why is a child this evil? I technically age her up just a little bit for the purpose of this story, even outside of the fact there’s a time skip from the end of FIM. I make her sixteen, which is probably at least two years older than she really should be, but I did it anyway because I felt odd not having her be at least an adult as far as Equestria was concerned.

So although you only see shades of it, I like to interpret her as someone who was abandoned at an early age. Someone who had to fend for herself, who dealt with abuse. Someone who took the lessons of the abuse and learned the wrong thing from it, learned how to inflict it upon others in return. She had to grow up fast, and as such, she never learned the empathy or other skills that you try to teach children.

She wanted all the friends she could have for power in season eight not just because it was power, but because… she really did crave companionship. She wanted to be close to people, just like anyone else.

You can see shades of that in the way she interacts with Tirek and Chrysalis in season nine. Even though she clearly can’t stand them as people, she nevertheless tries to work with them, and almost makes real friends with them. Almost.

Thus I extended that trend into IHW. Although Cozy had her plan, and she was committed to it, there was a chance, right up until the killing game started, for her to throw it away and beg for forgiveness. To have the friendship she truly wanted. Because let’s face it. The Humane Seven are a very forgiving group. They lampshaded it in Movie Magic, even. Had she gone to them, they would’ve had a hard time at first, especially Princess Twilight, but… forgiveness could’ve happened.

But not once the killing started. Not once people died. That crossed a line, permanently, that she could never walk back from.

There’s another oddity I’d like to address. The whole ScootaTiara. What’s up with that? Well… frankly I’m just as lost as the rest of you. I certainly had no plans for it. It wasn’t ever written down anywhere. Sure, maybe the fact that one or two readers suggested the idea Diamond Tiara would be a love interest for Sunset might’ve influenced the notion of shipping her with someone, but I was never seriously considering it.

And then Scootaloo made that joke in Chapter Five’s trial. It was, at the time, a moment of opportune comedy. But just like with Adagio deciding she’d be Sunset’s lover, Scootaloo basically stepped off the page for a moment, looked at me and said “Yeah, this is where this is going now.”

So I was like “Okay then,” shrugged, and proceeded. The bit of memory Sunset has, about them dating before the killing game started, that was me tossing in a little bit of extra justification. So if it feels pretty left field… that’s because it is.

But it makes for some really cute writing, and it helped add some depth to Scootaloo’s building confidence, that she went from “I’m a fangirl hiding in the shadows hoping senpai will notice me” to “Hey you, we could have something if you want it.” She took initiative. It’s character growth.

It’s also a bit of growth for Tiara too, because you’d be surprised how often someone can be convinced they’re some orientation or another only for the exception to roll up and be like “hey, how you doin’?” A little bit of extra depth for her humility, in other words. Accepting that she wants that kind of comfort that Scootaloo is offering. That she can be vulnerable, and show it. That’s important for her.

Well that and both of them were treated like garbage by me for most of the story. They needed something.

I’m sure there’s other questions I could answer, but I think that’s all I have for this today.

In other news, I’ve got a couple of things working behind the scenes. No real short this week, but there will be a surprise bit of Lost Moments I wasn’t anticipating writing, but then decided I felt like it after a rough work day. If I get it done by tonight I’ll toss it up. I think you’ll all like it.

I’ve also been working hard on the Star Trek idea, refining things further. I’ve had a lot of help with it and it’s been great.

Besides that, not too much has happened with me writing wise this week, but it’s also been a very busy work week. Work’s getting heavier and harder, just like I knew it would.

Two parts remain.

Oooh. I wonder what it is.

If I can finish it before I go to bed tonight, you'll find out.

Alright.
I've got some guesses, but I'd rather be surprised.

Well technically you could think of it that way.
The idea for the AU moment: Cozy Glow realizes that she is richest daughter in the country and decides to ignore Princess Twilight and Equestria. She is still bitter and spends time with Sunset and her friends.

I think the biggest difference between Cozy and Monaca is that Monaca survives and becomes Neet in Space. Despite all the craziness that was happening in the Danganronpa I still liked that moment

A part of me hopes the story is over. Not because I want it to end, but just because of how unexpected it'd be to just have everyone get blown up and that's it.
