Take a minute to be kind to someone today, even if that someone is you. We all need a little more kindness, giving and receiving.

I played Oh ... Sir! The Insult Simulator · 10:49pm Dec 26th, 2020

A game of fighting words.

This game is one you can leap into without any preparation whatsoever, but I'd recommend using their training until you get the hang of things. Skill with grammar helps too.

It's a fairly simple premise: you have an opponent who needs to be taken down a peg, your weapon of choice: whit and a sharp tongue.

The "fight" starts after a short situational preamble and you're given a short list of nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs with a few other little things slipped in there. you go back and forth with your opponent taking words from the list to create your masterpiece.

This game isn't just stringing together silly words and phrases, strategy is also important. Since words are removed from the list each turn you have to plan out what you're going to say and possible alternatives. If you can see what your opponent is going to do you can take words to cut them off (if you can then work it into your insult.) Similarly they can cut you off too.

Each character also has their personal strengths and weaknesses, attack your opponents weakness to get bonuses, make a string of similar insults to hammer them down. Harp relentlessly on one subject in one insult to really let them have it.

And you can't just stream nonsense together either. The mechanic behind scoring has an idea about what you're saying and how it's formed to determine how much your insult hurt. A quick biting quip can sometimes be better than some rambling gish gallop. Be certain your insult ends properly, too. Try to end on a fragment and you won't say anything, letting your opponent walk all over you.

Bonuses and combos are king. You can end a match really quick if you know how to work those together, even if you don't know your opponent's weakness.

There is actually a story mode to, starting in the Monty Python pet shop, fighting because of a dead parrot, and ending with you insulting God.

Of course if you don't want to bother with the story you can insult your friends in two player head to head. Although if you never beat the story you'll miss out on locked characters.

It's a fun, ridiculous, and cheap game, well worth the cost.
