Some scientists theorize that habitable planets around red dwarf stars might have black-colored vegetation adapted to absorb as much sunlight as possible.

When can we settle these planets?

Imagine hanging up your child's drawing of a pitch-black, jagged, monstrous tree on the fridge.

Wow...
This adds an interesting idea to what a planet like Krypton might have been like. XD

You're telling me Krypton wasn't a giant ball of crystals?

Now that I think of it, yeah...interesting possibilities there. :)

Nope. The crystalline look didn't really take off until the Christopher Reeve movies.

It was also the movie that introduced the idea of the "S" logo being a Kryptonian family crest.

Shoot. I guess my Superman lore is a bit rusty.

I'm just imagining the intelligent life forms on that planet speculating that, on worlds with harsh yellow suns, the vegetation is not a strong, healthy black but a vile, crude, flimsy green colour, because of the strange chemicals needed for light that overwhelming. Why, such worlds might even have unnatural blue skies!
