I found it cathartic a couple times to do that, actually, though not to the degree you experienced. Several times here, a year or so has ended up going by where I didn't check my feed for a short time and then it got to 100+ and it felt more like work than anything else so I put it off. At a couple thousand I would just open it to reset it and start fresh. You're free!
