Important News: Assassination of Twilight Sparkle Remake and Commissions Are Open · 1:27pm Sep 12th, 2020
Let's get the first business out of the way. I am rewriting the Assassination of Twilight Sparkle and ending the AssassinationVerse as it is. After a long time of looking at it, getting advice, and having evolved in my writing, I feel that I've made a mess of the series. It's gone in a direction most are not satisfied with nor is it heading into a direction that is good. I took a story about emotion, loss, and tragedy that people loved that went into a direction they do not agree with nor am I upon further deep reflection. This isn't something I do with ease, I really thought I could make this into an epic story series, but I went with it wrong. I mixed two genres in two different directions that didn't go well. I've made illogical choices, and quite frankly I've lost my love of writing this series.
But I want to make it right. I want to back to what the story was when I wrote, only better. As such, I am going to rewrite the story from the beginning only there will be new elements added to it:
-The Assassination will take place two years after Season 9's ending. This means that characters that couldn't be introduced in the original will now play a role and impact include The Student Six, Ember, Thorax, Tempest, Starlight, and more.
-Prince Blueblood will not be the killer nor will any of the Bluebloods be involved. Its a new conspiracy with a new villain who kills Twilight.
-Majesty and other OC characters I created will not exist. Erebus Islands and Unicornia are also out as well as the whole Pantheon I created for the series. It was all made for the adventure/future war parts of the series, but they will not be needed for the remake.
-It will all be one story, but will be much longer. Each story will be told in first person in the eyes of various characters.
-The story will have the same raw emotion and tragic elements of Aftermath, but there will be a sense of mystery, politics, and conspiracy that will be a key element as well as various characters try to find out "WHO" assassinated Twilight Sparkle
-It will be long. The longest story I have ever done on this site because I want to make sure I capture everything with this idea to make it work as it should have been. I have no plans on writing this until I have everything planned and I will not be posting until we're at least halfway there.
I understand some fans might be angry at me for doing this, especially those who like the direction the story was going, but I cannot put it anymore into the direction. I've slowly grown to hate it and during my efforts to write my own original novel series, learning from people who are more experts then me, the flaws are too much and I must fix this.
For those who write the TV Tropes page, I do thank you for all the work you put into it. I understand if you wish not to make a new on when the remake comes out or wish to not update it going forward with this news. I understand if you choose to go that route and I thank you for making it nonetheless.
That being said, I have good news: Commissions are now open again. It's been a long time since I've done this, but I am officially opening commissions again. I actually really like the story as it is, but it is your baby and your vision and your call. I am intrigued to see what you make. It's to bad you couldn't continue the original story while doing the rewrite.
I understand what your going through, though I loved the first two books and everything that happened in them, i'm willing to accept this change you're making.
I really enjoyed the few non canon stories (completed/not completed) in the assassinverse; I do have plans to write my own story to add to the collection someday, base off the original story of course.
Despite feeling sad that we won't see how the original story ended; I look forward to seeing your new work, I read a bunch of your stories and loved everyone I read and look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
Well, it is your story, which makes you THE ULTIMATE CREATOR of its world. So do what you think is best for it.
Am I upset that you are cancelling the series as it is right now? Just a little, but only because I genuinely liked how it was and didn’t complain about the choices you made, which means I will forever be curious about what could have been.
However, I still support your decision since you know what is best for the series. I will continue to read and support this remake you have planned and hope I enjoy it just as much if not more than the original.

No kidding. Do you know how many hours I put into writing down the entries for the Pantheon along with all the characters for Arc 2.5? The Pantheon, Erebus Isles and Unicornia not being completely erased but pushed for a future war sequel only mitigates it.
Now that it is cancelled, would you mind putting a separate blog post regarding what could have been if you continued? You should had an overall layout when you started 3 years ago. It would be nice to see what you had planned for all these characters.
Will the original Assassinationverse be removed from Fimfic? The original first entry was at that time, a reflection of Season 3 Twilicorn. It’s pretty much a notable piece of the fandom’s history. Reactions were different back then. You can’t sweep it under the rug.

I stopped reading after the tone shift and I look forward to the return to form of the original. A few years ago you made a post about the change of tone and I said do what you think is best and its your story, my advice remains the same. Good luck, I will be reading.
Now that you mention it, Twotonedearly did reminded me that she has yet to understand what will ever become of the other ponies and creatures that still supported Princess Twilight before she was attacked and left for dead, such as the Young six, Starlight Glimmer (even though I made her POV myself without anyone's consent), and the Pillars of Equestria. I don't mind adding the characters that were mentioned in MLP from Season 5 to Season 9. However, I still think its better to keep the old villains in Assassinverse intact as well as continuing with what you're currently working on, such as Majesty Blueblood (Tyrannical Queen of Unicornia) and the story that is she in (Path of Tyrant). You don't want 7 and a half years of work on the Assassinverse stories go to waste do you?!
If anyone is interested in writing a story set in the old assassinverse, could they do so?

I really don't like Bluebloods not being the villan anymore or even moving the time frame of the assasination. I was poetic that the greatest enemy was one from within and came as a result of Celestia not noticing. making an all new villan is a bad move. polish the story sure but full remake No Ponystar

I’ll be completely honest, I’m sad that we won’t see more of The Path Series in the future. Both were very fun to read and I was really hooked on them like I was with Sanguine Kindness from beginning to end. However, I respect your wishes with what you’d like to do Rated. That won’t make me think any less of you and what your deciding to do here. While you did mess up here and there on the Assassinsverse, I enjoyed them all nonetheless and just reading them shows the dedication you put in them. Even if you began to not love it anymore in the end. I’m sort of going the same way with my own series fics, except I’m planning to keep some things the same while keeping other things different. All that aside, you do what you feel is right and will leave you satisfied and proud of what you’ve written. Yeah there will be people who’ll be mad with its cancellation, but hey, who isn’t upset when awesome things are stopped right out of the blue

Looking back, sure there some poor decisions here and there, but I loved seeing the adventures of Spike's Team and the politics and machinations of the unicorns along with interesting world-building. It's a shame to see them go.
To be honest, I am one of the ones who didn't care much for the third and fourth entries in the series. I never thought they were bad, I even think you transitioned well into them. I just found myself quickly losing interest, mostly due to my past experience with long stories on this site. A common trend with long epics here is that unless they are indulgent power fantasies they tend to not go over well. Either by mediocre reception or just poor viewership, usually due to lacking the ability to keep their worlds consistent and/or interesting. I have no idea if your story would have been the same, it's just something I've noticed.
The first two entries are still really good and I am glad you are keeping them up in case others wish to still read them, and I always thought it was clever how you used Blueblood in the story by not just going the easy route and having him as stereotypical, black and white villain.
I'll definitely check out the rewrite, but I hesitate at the inclusion of the more recent characters. I've recently re-watched the entire show and found, for me, that the show dropped in general quality by a good bit after season 4. I'm afraid my general indifference toward characters from the later half of the show might corrupt my potential enjoyment of the new story.
I wish you luck in working on a rewrite. I had stopped shortly after the Path stories came out, I think the story transitioned well to them, but the genre shift wasn’t interesting me especially with the growing darkness to them. I could understand the intent in those even as I stepped away from those the Path stories, but a dark adventure story more so with Tyrant was not what I was looking for from this series. I have enjoyed the first two parts greatly and I still enjoy them. I will be reading the rewrite when it’s ready.
I would find rather engaging personally if Celestia and Lunas past as old world hardcore evil dictators or rather the things that are vile that are for the good of the empire?
Anyway just thought it would add a little to narrative if Celestia and Luna really everyone can see diferent sides to each character then just say oh look. Celestia all might Goddess of compassion is sad?

Left un answered and with no acknowledgement of wrongs wounds festor and explode into violence...hmmm...you could so many diferent directions.
Pps. It would be interesting to see a sort of hidden side to twilight and everyone after her death? So maybe everyone could be more honest about the hurts and such?

But the Princesses weren't evil dictators in their past. They had to face evil dictators, and the show shows them as Pro-Equine, and kind of trolls in their younger days. Heck they built an entire castle just to troll their subjects when they were in the Everfree.
Yeah, having her "was like a daughter to her killed" would make her livid (Celestia), and Luna would be almost as devestated if not more.

Still, look forward to seeing what happens with the remake. The original story was deep, impacting, and heartbreaking in a cathartic way. So looking forward to the new take on things.

The story and darkness worked at first because it was a logical extension/examination of the cast and setting we loved about FIM.
Limit the new story mostly to canon characters and setting, or at least keep them center stage, and it should turn out ok.

Nope, the entire thing (both Path stories) is cancelled and the entire Assassination verse is rebooted. The author thinks he messed up in the tone along with various other story issues. So better redo from scratch.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do about your own story. It must not be easy to go back on this amount of work you've put in. I believe I commented a long time ago on another blogpost of yours that I no longer start unfinished stories on this site. So while I was happy to read your first two stories in this series, I never started the path stories precisely for this reason. Once again, I hope you find what you feel is the correct path for your world, and when you do I will be there to read it only when it is finished lol.
I'm honestly glad for this. The other stories, especially Majesty's, just made me too uncomfortable to read...

I'm going to be honest: I'm glad that you're redoing this series, because the first time I tried reading through it, I just thought it was so wrong. Even sompony as vain as Blueblood wouldn't commit such an act, because the guy likely grew up with Twilight in the castle when she was little and, well, unless you're a remorseless narcissist, you don't just up and kill people you know, even if you don't agree with them (unless they're turning into Hitler the Second, then you start panicking

And while I don't agree with the assassination as a whole (let alone how it was pulled off), the idea that it's a conspiracy with completely different designs and plans makes a lot more sense, making it into a mystery rather than something dark for the sake of war and general tragedy. I have no idea if this is helping you or not with your story and you may have another blog posted about this (I came here from TV Tropes), I just....I wanted to say something back when I first read this story, but I didn't, and I feel like I goofed. I had concerns to share, but I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to come off as a jerk
