And by "Friendship in Disguise" I mean the recently released comic-- not the crossover fanfic that I started and never finished a couple years ago.
Still! After 'the world is doomed' kind of delays, the comic finally came out! And I actually masked up and went to the comic store to pick it up! (Along with Immortal Hulk Volume 6, which is holy crap good, you guys). And since I'm being lazy and procrastinating, I figured I'd tell y'all about it! The MLP comic, that is. I haven't finished the Hulk trade, as I'm pacing myself on it 'cause it's really dang good.
As for the MLP comic, though? It's ... okay? Issue #1 is half setup. Basically, Chrysalis does schenanigans that interfere with a Space Bridge to bring a buncha robots to Equestria. Hijinks ensue. Though there's a really fun bit from Quibble Pants at the beginning that shows the writers are being entirely self-aware with this.
The comic seems to be going for an episodic, rather than an ensemble approach. So basically you have a pony teaming up and/or facing down a robot, and hijinks ensue. The second half of Issue #1 is Rarity teaming up with Arcee to rough up Starscream and some other jets. Fairly straightforward thing, honestly. Though maybe I've got my shipping goggles on but Rarity seems a little, uh ... taken with Arcee. And, y'know, Arcee's canonically a lesbian (so much as genderfluid transforming alien robots can be lesbian?).
Or, well, she is in some continuities, neither of which really map out to the this comic, given the characters involved and the forms they're in, which means we're getting back to that thing Quibble Pants was talking about. But ... still. Rarity likes her some strong ladies, I suppose. I'm sure scans of said pages will appear on the internets before too long.
But yeah. The comic's a fun little amusement, though I doubt it's going to do anything particularly "oh shit!" worthy. Ah well. I guess I'm spoiled, as Tom Scoili's Transformers GI Joe series was just absolutely insane, and nearly everything I could ever want in a comic. -AND- it even had ponies in it, too!

I will never not take the opportunity to post that Megatron panel.
Wish I'd been born a decade or three earlier to experience the '80's personally just to get context for that comic.
You should always take the opportunity to post that panel. Heck, I made a whole story around the question "Why is Moondancer licking Megatron?"
