New story - fourth instalment of The Heart That Forgot How to Feel · 12:58pm May 14th, 2020
Although I've written about this story and why it came into being in the Author's Notes section, I'm going to talk about it a bit here.
To start, this story took way, way longer than it should have to write. I think I only scribbled out four pages within a week. I've been too distracted lately, so if the quality is lacking, there's your answer. I never have liked writing sequels to stories, especially multi-chapters, especially when you factor in the time and energy it takes to do it on a schedule to keep it steady in pace and updates, which I'm notoriously bad for not doing. I can't follow plans and schedules, period. But this was an experiment of sorts, like the idea was in my head to write a story following the events of the other three stories, leading up to how Fluttershy, as a Personal Duplicate, fits back into her life where she left off, unaware of her cybernetic nature, how she interacts with her daughter, Shy Fly, whom she'd never met before until now.
It crossed my mind to add Rainbow Dash into all of this, too, having her meet Fluttershy again. It seemed like a natural route to take, given that they are both lifelong friends who have known each other since childhood. I wanted to imagine how Dash would possibly react to seeing her dead best friend four years later, after she saw her very clearly get lowered into the ground at her funeral plot after seeing her die in hospital from her pregnancy. I wanted to see how it would all pan out, whether or not she'd grow to accept Fluttershy's presence in her life again, or if she'd reject her, have some reservations and maybe not want anything to do with her. If this story is wanted to be seen as something more, a lot longer and with details on such events, then I can see what I can do.
I would like to see this come out as a longer multi-chapter story, despite my personal reservations on the idea, but I can't promise anything. This took so long to get out, I'm unsure how long it'll take to get other chapters done. Regarding the length, this one is at the 11.5K mark, so it's basically a short story, a little under that, perhaps. I understand it may be a bit daunting to some of you, and I have had that comment put about a bit on the previous stories, but if I do choose to go ahead with making more chapters, if that's what the reader wants to see, then I will obviously try making them shorter, in the 2-3K range.
I'm eager to know what you think of this new story, whether you like it or dislike it, I'm interested to know your thoughts!
