Next Month: Charity Time · 8:44am Apr 25th, 2020
So I'm thinking that next month I'd like to run a charity event, but this will be a little different from previous events and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work.
I'd like to do something local, and I'd really like to both give back to the barn I help out at and supplement their charity program, which unfortunately just started this year and a lot of which has had to be deferred due to Covid. See, our barn has started a program called Equine Empowerment, which covers three large areas: Project Piper, which is equine-assisted therapy for victims of crime; Operation Travis, which is aimed at helping veterans through equine therapy, and reaching out to rescue horses in the community; and lastly, Snapshot's Scholarship, where we award a grant to underprivileged kids so they can learn horse care and get riding lessons.
So yeah. We're waiting on grants to go through and several months' rent are being forgiven, but costs for keeping the lights on and horses fed are extremely high, and without being able to give lessons we're kind of at a standstill.
So while I probably can't gather a lot of money to donate, I'd still like to put my efforts towards getting a bit. And I can definitely offer entertainment in return.
If anyone has any suggestions on the best way to pass the hat for this project, let me know. Should I collect donations directly, start a GoFundMe, or what?
But I'd definitely like to give back. They uh. Have obviously put up with a lot from me. And I'm sure I can come up with some reward tiers to encourage some generosity.
Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone out there is keeping as safe as possible in these turbulent times.
